January 2013 Message from AIChE President, Phil Westmoreland
As I begin 2013 as AIChE’s president, I want to share my belief that we’re entering a new Golden Age of Chemical Engineering. Why is this a time for chemical engineering to shine? Consider what is happening:
Leadership
AIChE's leaders include its Executive Director and the board of directors, who are professionals with backgrounds as varied as the industry. Officers of the board include the current president, past president, president-elect, secretary, and treasurer.
Industry Technology Groups
AIChE Industry Technology Groups allow industry, academia and government representatives to collaborate and leverage resources for research, technology transfer and other activities. They include CCPS, SBE, IfS, CEI, SAChE, DIERS, and DIPPR.
Divisions & Forums
In the fast evolving chemical engineering profession, AIChE’s divisions and forums will keep you on the cutting edge of your specialty. Divisions and forums give you opportunities for affiliation with top engineers in your specialty.
Committees
AIChE’s 23 committees function as national liaisons between the Board of Directors and the Institute’s membership. Each committee addresses and serves specific fields within the organization and help shape the policy and procedure of the Institute. They serve as forums for the initiation and discussion of ideas, activities, and programs that serve the members and keep the Institute responsive to the members' needs.
Local Sections
AIChE local sections provide grassroots support for the Institute, essential to meeting the needs of chemical engineers locally. With locations spanning the U.S. and the globe, you don't need to go very far to meet colleagues who share your interests.
Fellows
Fellows are elite members of AIChE who have been practicing chemical engineering for normally 25 years or more, and have been a Member for at least ten years.
