Michael R. Ladisch is Director of the Laboratory of Renewable Resources Engineering (LORRE), and Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering with a joint appointment in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.

His BS (1973) from Drexel University and MS (1974) and PhD (1977) from Purdue University are in Chemical Engineering. He is continuing his activities with Mascoma Corporation, where he has been a contributor since 2007.

Ladisch’s research addresses transformation of renewable resources into biofuels and bioproducts. He is an author of two textbooks, numerous journal papers, and 20 patents granted or applied for. 

Ladisch was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1999, received the Paul Dana Biofuels Award in 2006, Charles D. Scott Award in 2009, named as one of 100 engineers of the Modern Era by AIChE in 2008, elected fellow of ACS and AAAS in 2011, and the National Academy of Inventors in 2014.
