More than 3,500 refining and petrochemicals industry professionals and academics from over 30 countries attended the 10th Middle East Refining & Petrochemicals Conference and Exhibition (Middle East Petrotech 2016) that took place on September 26–29, 2016 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Center. Organized by Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and Subsidiaries, the conference was inaugurated by HE Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, followed by remarks from distinguished speakers such Amin H. Nasser, president and CEO, Saudi Aramco; Nizar Al-Adsani, CEO, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation; and Prince Faisal Bin Turki, Advisor, Saudi Arabia Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources (EMIR).

In addition to the four-day technical conference, a three-day exhibition ran in parallel. 120 exhibitors from various countries were featured with a grand opening on September 27. This provided an excellent platform to represent both the Saudi AIChE Local Section and Saudi YPC.

Considered amongst the largest gatherings of the oil and gas industry in the Middle East, a large number of delegates from varies backgrounds attended the event.  With many visitors at the booth, PetroTech 2016 provided a gateway to meet with new professionals from the downstream industry worldwide and representatives from companies from across the region for collaborative initiatives. Taking place under the theme of ‘Teaming Up for Excellence: Industry, Government and Education,’ the objective of YPC’s participation in the conference was to increase its portfolio in terms of increasing the YPC membership database as well as collaboration opportunities with industry leaders, academia, and downstream oil professionals.

With the help of representatives from the programming team, ambassadors and publications subcommittees of the YPC along with excited volunteers, the booth created opportunities to attract young professionals through posters and brochures about YPC and the SAS-AIChE vision and missions, as well discussing the ongoing and future programs of YPC.

A raffle draw was conducted alongside the exhibition within the YPC booth. 88 participants were randomly chosen for a puzzle that was organized earlier. The winner was awarded a smart watch at the end of the draw. The Chairman of the technical committee, Mr. Eyad Basrawi, commended the organizers on the job well done in organizing the booth and the very active participation of the young professionals. The event turned out to be a valuable meeting for the young professionals as a whole and the networks gained by the end of the show was very rewarding and filled with new connections and friends alike.
