The Latest YPC News

Spring is in the air, and that means that AIChE’s 2016 Spring Meeting and the 12th Global Congress on Process Safety is right around the corner. The Young Professional’s Committee will be hosting or co-hosting 35 technical sessions on site in Houston, TX between April 10th and April 14th. These sessions span a broad range of topics that may be of interest to young ChemE’s.

Of particular interest to all YPs, is the YPC panel session “Working with Millennials,” which is slated to focus on issues facing the millennial workforce, discussing what millennials want from their employers, and provide an opportunity for members of all ages to connect with young engineers. We’re also excited to be holding our always popular YPC Mixer on April 10th at Hearsay on the Green from 8:30-11:00pm. This is a great way to kick off your meeting and meet other YPs arriving in Houston for the conference.

Another great opportunity at the Spring Meeting is the Women’s Workplace Retention & Reentry (W2R2): Reentry to Industry workshop being hosted by the Women’s Initiatives Committee. You can read more about this great opportunity later in this newsletter.

In this newsletter you’ll find a more in-depth preview of YPC’s programming at the Spring Meeting as well as information about a new Safe Zone Workshop on workplace inclusiveness also taking place on site in Houston. There are also a number of opportunities for YPs to get involved outside of the Spring Meeting featured in this month’s newsletter, including opportunities in AIChE’s Environmental Division and the chance for graduate students to present their research via webinar or the ChEnected blog.

We’ve also included an interview with two members of YPC, Dr. Anju Gupta and Victoria Baldwin, on their experience planning programming at AIChE’s 2015 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City and the rewards they’ve reaped from their involvement. YPC still has open leadership positions for the 2016-2017 term, so if you’re interested please email ypc@aiche.org for more information.

We hope to see you in Houston at the Spring Meeting and to continue to engage you through other avenues in the coming months.

Best wishes,
Chris Lowe, YPC Chair
