Meet Peter Schwalbenberg – Featured YP for December 2015

Where are you from?

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

What company/institution do you work for?

Inolex, Inc.

Where did you complete your chemical engineering education?

I completed my B.S. in Chemical Engineering at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey

How many years have you been a member of AIChE?

Three

Describe a recent challenge you managed, notable achievement, or obstacle you overcame at your job or in your work as an AIChE member.

Earlier this year, I made the transition from process development engineer to process safety engineer at Inolex, which has been very challenging but very exciting! I find my duties, which include job hazard analysis, process hazard analysis and process improvement, to have a significant impact on not only production but all personnel onsite, which has amplified my pride in my work. Learning the ins and outs of industrial compliance on both the local and federal level provided many insights. It opened my eyes to how many areas are monitored and has given me more perspective. The process engineer, plant manager and director of manufacturing at Inolex have been incredible mentors and I'm thankful everyday. I look forward to continuing to strengthen my leadership skills to become an established manager and make any process and work environment cleaner, safer, and more efficient.

What do you do to meet people in your field?

AIChE has been an amazing way to meet people in the field! I can't tell people enough how important is to be a member of a professional organization, especially in engineering. I currently serve as chair for my location of AIChE, the Delaware Valley Section, and I've met numerous local ChE's through volunteering, presentations, and social events. I've also been able to meet people from the global AIChE community and see what chemical engineers do throughout the U.S. and abroad.
