Magdy Abdelrahman, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at North Dakota State University. He discussed with ChEnected at the Second International Congress on Sustainability Science and Engineering (ICOSSE) the role educators, like himself, should play in guiding and preparing graduates who will practice sustainability. Research activities are critical to guide and form policy and planning of sustainability programs. Sustainability must be part of the academic practice and culture, and sustainable development courses should be offered at undergraduate and graduate levels. There is a need for identifying the main challenges facing academic communities in integrating sustainability in engineering curriculum.
