Achieving Transformational Energy Productivity Gains

A team led by University of Texas at Austin, including American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, Invensys, Emerson Process Management, Nimbis, General Dynamics (GD), Praxair, National Center for Manufacturing Science (NCMS), and the Smart Manufacturing Leaders Coalition (SMLC) are working on a multiyear DOE project to advance the pervasive, comprehensive and orchestrated use of advanced sensor data analytics, modeling and simulation for real-time enterprise actions to achieve radical energy and productivity gains.

A key component of the project is to develop generalized energy performance and productivity metrics; i.e. sustainability metrics for energy systems. The approaches for the development of a suite of metrics that address economic, societal and technical aspects of performance of systems for both discrete manufacturing and steam reforming platforms are being developed by the AIChE Institute for Sustainability and Center for Energy Initiatives.
