PSID Confidentiality & Liability

The anonymity of submitted incident data is carefully protected.  The database does not include the name and address of the submitting organization unless that submitting company makes special arrangements to do so.  When an incident is drafted by a member company and submitted to the Database Administrator for approval it is assigned a random number as an identifier.  Once an incident has been approved and entered into the database, it is assigned a different random number as an identifier and all records in the CCPS PSID Administrator’s possession are destroyed.

To protect the confidentiality of data submitted by participants, a number of special measures are in place as follows:

  • Contracts between CCPS and contractors hired to process or manage confidential data contain strict requirements for maintaining the security and confidentiality of data, including an audit process.
  • The selection of specific process safety incidents for submission of data is strictly voluntary.
  • Companies have the right to refrain from submitting any incident that might be involved in litigation or might otherwise be sensitive.  CCPS does not dictate which incidents are to be entered.
  • Procedures are in place to prevent any third party attempts to access the data.
