CCPS SPURS NEW OSHA ALLIANCE TO ADDRESS CHEMICAL REACTIVITY HAZARDS

About the Alliance

CCPS became a charter signatory of an Alliance with the US Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) to promote awareness of chemical reactivity hazards and to provide suitable tools to manage these hazards across industry. Alliance members include CCPS, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the American Chemistry Council (ACC), the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA), the Chlorine Institute, the National Association of Chemical Distributors, and Texas A&M University. The Alliance grew out of the 2003 partnership of CCPS, OSHA, EPA, ACC, and SOCMA to electronically distribute the CCPS book Essential Practices for Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards.

The following CCPS Process Safety Beacons pertaining to Chemical Reactivity Hazards are dedicated to the OSHA Reactivity Alliance:

January 2003 "Reactive Chemistry: Note Always When or Where You Want It"
August 2003 "Simply Mixing Chemicals Can Be Hazardous to Your Health"
December 2004 "Bhopal: A Tragic Event"
March 2005 "Tower Top Rockets Off"
August 2005 "Toxic Reaction in Sewer is Fatal"
January 2006 "Time Sensitive Chemicals--And Sharing Lessons"
July 2006 "Do You Have Storage Pallets That Look Like This?"

Free Electronic CCPS Book "Essential Practices for Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards
Through generous contributions from the American Chemistry Council (ACC), CCPS, OSHA, the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA), and the US EPA, the CCPS book "Essential Practices for Managing Chemical Reactivity Hazards is now available to read online.
