Safety Issues in Particle Handling: Dust Explosions

AIChE Webinar
Originally delivered Aug 4, 2010

Over the past 6 years dust explosions have claimed 28 lives in the United States, tragically demonstrating the importance of proper design and operation to ensure safety in solids handling operations. The trend towards manufacture of finer combustible powders in many businesses can only be expected to increase this risk in the future. This webinar provides a fundamental understanding of dust explosions with an emphasis on preventive and mitigative measures to prevent their occurrence. Current regulatory activity regarding solids-handling safety will also be briefly discussed.
