The decomposition energy is the maximum amount of energy which can be released upon decomposition. The product decomposition energy and total mass is an important parameter for determing the effects of sudden energy release, e.g., in an explosion. The decomposition energy can be obtained for literature, calculated theoretically or determined experimentally.
