Students, Teachers, and Communities

Manufacturers, refiners, and other operations that use chemicals are the primary users of process safety.  However, students, teachers, and communities play very important roles.

Students considering a career in chemistry or chemical or biological engineering should be exposed in their undergraduate education to the basics of process safety.  For this reason, CCPS maintains the Safety in Chemical Engineering Education (SAChE) program, which provides practical curricula materials for lecturers and self-study.

Residents of communities located near sites where chemicals are handled should familiarize themselves with the basics of process safety and community emergency response.
