Russell A. Ogle, P.E., PhD, is a principal engineer and is the Practice Director for Thermal Sciences at Exponent. He applies his expertise as a chemical engineer to the scientific investigation and prevention of accidents. He has more than 30 years of industrial experience working in fire, explosion, and chemical safety. His investigations have involved the performance evaluation and failure analysis of a wide range of chemical processes, industrial equipment, and consumer products. Drawing from his diverse accident investigation experience in the chemical process industries, he has provided consulting services in process safety management (PSM), including incident investigations, combustible dust hazard analysis, process hazard analysis, quantitative risk assessment, and decision analysis. In addition to his work in process safety, Ogle regularly consults with clients on process systems engineering, particularly in the areas of plant performance and process operations. He has extensive experience in evaluating the performance of chemical process plants, identifying production bottlenecks, and investigating product quality issues. Ogle received his PhD from the Univ. of Iowa and BS from Purdue Univ., both in chemical engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama. He is both a Certified Safety Professional and a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator.
