Bobbie Swinson recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Appropriate Technology and minor in Community and Regional Planning from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina and will be entering graduate school for both of the same programs in Fall 2012. A hair stylist of more than ten years now, she has been the catalyst behind research that involves the design of an indoor “living system” of various plant species that work to remove contaminants from water while adding aesthetic value to the space and simultaneously educating the general public about sustainable water management strategies. Her knowledge of the salon and spa industry and her passion for sustainable technologies is sure to change the way that water is perceived, conserved, and recycled in a business that directly involves the general public, the local hair salon.
