On November 17, 2008 in Philadelphia, PA, AIChE held a Gala celebrating its 100th year, which honored the chief executive officers of four companies that employ many of its members and have a history of supporting the profession’s growth and development.

With 300 guests in attendance, the Centennial Gala, at the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue, raised close to $450,000 for educational programs, including ScaleUp, a corporate-sponsored undergraduate membership initiative that facilitates relationships between students and industry.

The event honored energy, chemical and pharmaceutical CEOs, Rex W. Tillerson of ExxonMobil, Andrew N. Liveris of The Dow Chemical Company, Charles O. Holliday, Jr., of DuPont, and Richard T. Clark of Merck & Co., Inc. Raj Gupta, CEO of Philadelphia’s Rohm and Haas served as the events Gala Chair.

AIChE Executive Director John A. Sofranko expressed gratitude to the honorees, chair, and many supporters. “By joining AIChE at this special centennial event, these leading companies are making a direct contribution to the future of the chemical engineering profession,” he said. He added that the programs that the event benefits “are helping to realize the promise that today’s students hold for tomorrow’s technology-based businesses.”
