Online registration for the national competition opens May 1. See the note below regarding waiting list teams.
The national competition roster is drawn from regional winners, based on the size of each student region. Each region may send its first and second place winner at the minimum. The Mid America, Northeast, Rocky Mountain and Western regions may send their 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. The Mid-Atlantic, North Central and Southern regions may send their top five winners. At the national competition, only one entry per school is permitted in this qualifying procedure. Multiple entries per school may be allowed following the open entry procedure discussed below.
The eligible teams from the regional competitions MUST SUBMIT an application to compete in the 2009 national competition by June 30, 2009. If an eligible team does not submit its application by the deadline, their competition slot will be opened up to a waiting list team, in the order that the waiting list entries were received. Review the full competition rules for more information.
Waiting List: Teams that competed at regional competitions but that did not make the short list of qualifiers (as described above) may use the registration link above to apply for the waiting list. Beginning on July 1, any unclaimed slots will be made available to waiting list teams on a "first-come, first-served" basis to waiting list teams. Preference will be given so that there will be only one team entry per student chapter.
Closer to the competition date, some competition slots may become open, and the next-in-line waiting list teams would then be invited to claim the slot. Waiting list teams will be notified.
If you have questions about the application process, contact Professor David Dixon at david.dixon@sdsmt.edu
Entry fee
To help defray the cost of chemical handling, tranportation and disposal, teams are asked to pay an entry fee of $125 per car. The entry fee submission deadline for first round registrants is June 30, 2009.
Should a waiting list team enter the competition rotation, AIChE will request that the team submit an entry fee at a later date.
Please make the check payable to “AIChE,” and write “2009 Chem-E-Car” on the check. Mail it to: Nina Scatton, AIChE, 3 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10016.
If there are questions about the registration fee, contact ninas@aiche.org.
