Awards
SBE strives to encourage and recognize undergraduate and graduate students in biological engineering and related fields.
SBE is currently sponsoring a $1000 award for the Best Use of a Biological Reaction to Power a Car during this year's Chem-E-Car competition. In this competition, team members design and construct a chemically powered vehicle within certain size constraints. For the SBE award, the power must be biological. The teams will be told at the time of the competition the distance that the car must travel and the specified cargo that the vehicle will carry. Entries deemed unsafe by the judges will be disqualified. The winner will be determined by a combined score, for traveling the correct distance, and for creativity. Teams compete at the regional conferences, and the winner of each regional conference will compete at the national conference. More information can be found at http://www.aiche.org/Students/Conferences/chemecar.aspx.
If you join AIChE in addition to SBE, you can also qualify and compete with students from around the country for $40,000 in annual awards, scholarships and competitions — including the popular Chem-E-Car competition. Check them out by clicking here.
