David Gracias

David Gracias is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Chemistry and Institute for Nanobiotechnology at Johns Hopkins University. David is a native of India and did his undergraduate studies at The Indian Institute of Technology. Subsequently, he received a Ph.D. in Chemistry at UC Berkeley. He was a post-doctoral fellow with George Whitesides at Harvard and worked a Senior Engineer in R&D at Intel Corporation before his current position.
Prof. Gracias’s research interests lie in the areas of micro and nanotechnology, self-assembly, non-Linear Optics, nanoelectronics, interfacial science, biomedical engineering and nanomedicine. Prof. Gracias has published over 40 papers, holds 17 issued U.S. patents and has given over 40 invited talks.
His awards include the National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award the foundation's most prestigious award for new faculty members; the Beckman Young Investigator award from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation intended to provide research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of academic careers in the chemical and life sciences; the Camille Dreyfus Teacher Scholar Award intended to support the teaching and research careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences; and the 2007 Maryland Outstanding Young Engineer Award.
