Dennis Discher

Dennis E. Discher is a Professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, with membership in both Physics and Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Groups. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in 1993 and, was an NSF-International Fellow at the University of British Columbia until 1996.  He is author or coauthor on 150 papers and book chapters ranging from topics in drug delivery to cell and molecular biology, single molecule biophysics, and – more recently – matrix driven stem cell differentiation. His work has appeared in a wide range of journals, including Cell, Science, Nature Nanotechnology, Journal of Cell Biology, PNAS, JACS, PRL, Journal of Controlled Release, and Biophysical Journal.  Honors include the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany in 2003, the Journal of Controlled Release-Best Paper Jorge Heller Award (2004), the NSF Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE) in 1999.
