Society for Biological Engineering Honors James Liao
AIChE s Society for Biological Engineering (SBE) has awarded its fifth annual James E. Bailey Award to Dr. James C. Liao for advances in metabolic research.  Liao is the Chancellor s Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has made major contributions to biochemical engineering with his theoretical and his experimental work, and has an international reputation that extends well beyond the chemical engineering community.

SBE has named Miriam Cortes-Caminero as its new executive director, effective July 7.

Search Committee Review Criteria for Assistant Director for Biological Sciences (AD/BIO), NSF
National Science Foundation is initiating a national research for an Assistant Director for Biological Sciences (BIO). Dr. James Collins has served in this position with great distinction since October 2005.

James Swartz is the 2008 Bailey Award Winner
SBE’s 2008 James E. Bailey Award is presented to James Swartz for his distinguished research into "cell-free" biomedical innovations.  These innovations will offer ways to improve a variety of pharmaceutical products.

American Institute of Chemical Engineers Names New Executive Director
SBE's Executive Director June Wispelwey will be moving on to take the reins of AIChE as its Executive Director, effective January 1. She will remain Executive Director of SBE until her replacement is named.

UTEK Corporation, a leading Open Innovation services company, announced that the AIChE has signed an agreement to co-market the innovation services of UTEK to AIChE's Society for Biological Engineering (SBE).
