2011 NSEF Awards
2011 Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum Award
Professor Brian A. Korgel (University of Texas at Austin - Department of Chemical Engineering)
Dr. Korgel is this year's recipient based on his pioneering contributions to the art of nanocrystal and nanowire synthesis, elucidation of fundamental aspects of self-assembly, and development of new technologies based on nanomaterials.
2011 Nanoscale Science and Engineering Young Investigator Award
Professor Suljo Linic (University of Michigan - Department of Chemical Engineering)
Dr. Linic is this year's recipient for contributions in energy conversion through the development of energy efficient and environmentally friendly nanomaterials for catalysis and photocatalysis.
The Forum Award is presented annually to a recipient who is recognized for outstanding contributions to the advancement of nanoscale science and engineering in the field of Chemical Engineering through scholarship, education or service. The Young Investigator Award recognizes outstanding interdisciplinary research in nanoscience and nanotechnology by engineers or scientists in the early stages of their professional careers (within 10 years of completion of the highest degree). The awards committee sifted through many quality nominations and ultimately agreed upon two excellent candidates.
Dr. Korgel and Dr. Linic will be giving 30-minute presentations regarding their research on Monday, October 17th in the NSEF Plenary Session at the 2011 AIChE Annual Meeting in Minneapolis (see the Technical Program via the link on NSEF's Webpage for more information and brief abstracts of their presentations: http://www.aiche.org/nano/). A formal awards presentation will be made at the NSEF Reception on Wednesday evening directly following the conclusion of meeting sessions (a non-ticketed event that is tentatively scheduled for 5:45 - 7:30 with drinks and hors d'oeuvres for all - inquire on-site in Minneapolis for details).
