About
The Maryland Local Section is part of the international American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). AIChE has over 40,000 members in over 90 countries, and is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2008.
The AIChE Maryland Local Section is comprised of degreed and/or participating chemical engineers from across the state of Maryland. Membership in the Maryland Section is open to all Maryland residents with a degree in chemical engineering and/or who work in chemical engineering-related fields. For more information, attend one of our meetings or contact one of our officers at aiche.md@gmail.com.
Our section's focus in recent years has been monthly meetings during the fall, winter, and spring, in an attempt to give our members the opportunity to interact with each other and the experience other facets of chemical engineering (and related topics) that they might not experience in their everyday workplace experiences. Monthly meetings in the fall 2008-spring 2009 season will generally take place on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May. Meetings are usually either facility tours or speakers at the Engineers' Club of Baltimore.
In addition to meetings, the section prides itself in assisting the community. The section provides scholarships to local high school graduates annually, as well as assisting in the judging of local science fairs. National Engineers' Week also continues to be one of our top priorities, focusing on showing youth what the sciences can do for them and the opportunities they may provide.
