The John J. McKetta ProjectConnect Grants for Local Sections

The John J. McKetta ProjectConnect Grants for Local Sections were inaugurated in 2001 to assist local sections with their efforts to reach out to students, recent chemical engineering graduates, and new engineers. Sections are encouraged to request funds to help support innovative programs designed to increase participation of young graduates transitioning from student to professional. Read about some of the innovative and successful local section programs supported by ProjectConnect grants here.

In this program, 15-25 annual grants of $150-$600 each are awarded to sections submitting qualified applications. The quarterly deadlines for applications are:

  • March 31, 2009
  • June 30, 2009
  • September 30, 2009
  • December 30, 2009

The ProjectConnect Subcommittee, in conjunction with the Local Section Executive Committee, will review the applications and distribute the grants within 30 days from the deadline(s). AIChE’s Volunteer & Membership Activities Dept. will administer the program. (Read more about the program's criteria.)

To apply for a grant, complete the application form and fax it to AIChE’s Volunteer & Membership Activities Dept. at (646) 495-1503.

Additional Criteria

  • Only one grant per section may be obtained in a programming year (July-June)
  • Sections awarded a grant will receive a check along with a summary report that is to be completed and returned to AIChE.
  • Sections must submit a summary report to be considered for funding during the next funding cycle.

  • All-day luncheon program on "World Business and Future Growth in Chicago" (including Biotech/Nanotech); followed by networking reception
  • AIChE President Sid Sapakie visits Oregon for AIChE-OSU football weekend; presentation on AIChE member benefits and career guidance for young chemE's
  • Implementation of AIChE Singapore Senior Year Design Award
  • Student/recent grad volunteer recruitment free dinner meeting
  • Networking pizza party for young engineers and local companies
  • Student scholarship and awards night
  • Local college bowl during Engineering Week
  • Student poster paper contest
  • Career night with company reps
  • Career guidance forums for local college students on the pros and cons, challenges and rewards of different chemical engineering career paths
  • Educational workshop for college students on how to prepare for the working world
