Volunteerism Best Practices -- the CEOC (Career and Education Operating Council) has developed a packet as a means to help AIChE leaders build and maintain a solid volunteer base. This package is comprised on information from the Volunteer Participation Workshop held at the 2002 Leadership Development Conference, the discussions of the 2001 Critical Issues Task Force, and the experience of our members as part of a comprehensive review. The document offers a list of Best Practices which can be converted to concrete specific actions that will have an impact and can be adapted to the needs of any organization. BartlesvilleLocal Section hosts 9th annual Energy Days

On April 25-27, 2006, the Bartlesville Local Section hosted the 9th annual Energy Days. 900 students and 50 teachers from 14 different school districts within a 50 mile circle around Bartlesville, that includes schools from Oklahoma and Kansas, attended this event.
During the two hour session the students participated in activities that explore how petroleum is discovered, produced, processed and utilized in an environmentally safe manner. The challenging lessons were taught by a total of 250 volunteers- retired employees of Phillips and Conoco, teachers, and current ConocoPhillips employees. These lessons included eight hands-on activities and other demonstrations involving the energy industry. The goal of this event is to expose students to science and encourage them to consider a science career or to feel more comfortably with energy decisions that are now important. Each student received a t-shirt with the names of the contributing companies and organizations. The teachers also received educational materials for their classrooms.
