What is sustainable Engineering?

Sustainability is a path of continuous imporvement, wherein the products and services required by society are delivered with progressively less megative impact upon the Earth (defined by AIChE Grassroots project, 2004).

Why should my company care?

There is growing global recognition that sustainability is increasingly important.  Industry and policy makers have to face these issues in order to make the best use of resources.  A variety of organizations have been addressing this issue for some time.  The beauty of sustainability development is that it offers a win-win situation, since implementing sustainable practices also improves your company’s bottom line by saving energy and reducing materials and waste.

Learn from companies dealing with the issues on how sustainable engineering affects your organization, its resources, its return on investment, and its outlook for the future.

What’s in it for me?

Engineers are ethically responsible for good design of systems and parts.  Engineers are also responsible for having an option as to whether their design adequately meets some standard.  As stewards of society they need to have really good handle on issues like climate change and water.  Sometimes they don’t weigh in on it because it becomes politicized.  If you read weekly magazines, you cannot pick up an issue without an article on water, global warming or climate models.

You will get practical information from professionals for implementing these ideas, processes and practices in your company.
