The AIChE Ammonia Safety Committee welcomes your paper proposal for 2009 safety symposium. Selections will place emphasis on proposals that effect improvements in safety, operability, and reliability issues that occur within the ammonia & fertilizer industry, or where lessons from other industries on these subjects apply.

Program Topics:  The ammonia and related facilities safety symposium is a forum to share safety, reliability, and industry-development topics.  Papers include plant incidents or learning events, incident response, mechanical reliability issues, operation issues, and projects that improve reliability and economics for facilities.  Papers on process or product innovations are welcomed, and are preferred in conjunction with a plant application.

Timely topics for 2009 papers would include:

             • Alternate hydrogen sources (coal or petcoke gasification).
             • Waste heat boiler failures.
             • Advanced process control and plant optimization.
             • Plant incidents and learning events.
             • Successful implementation of innovative repairs.

On the last day of the ammonia safety symposium a Roundtable session is organized. This Roundtable meeting provides informal and interactive sharing of common problems and incidents with fellow producers.
