Awards at the 2006 AIChE Annual Meeting

AIChE administers more than 60 awards, presented by the Institute, the Board of Directors, technical divisions and forums, local sections, and committees. These awards include monetary prizes, certificates, plaques, medals, honoraria, and invited lectures.

F.J. & Dorothy Van Antwerpen Award for Service to the Institute

: Peter B. Lederman, Consultant; Executive Director of the Center of Environmental Engineering and Science (retired)
"For his outstanding service to the Institute -- in Professional Development, Government Relations, the Audit Committee, the Societal Impact Operating Council, the Institute Foundation, the Environmental Division, and for governance and leadership on the national and local section level. He has been an eminent representative of the chemical and environmental engineering profession for over 30 years."

Society for Biological Engineering Award
The Society for Biological Engineering’s James E. Bailey Award endowed by Cytos Biotechnology, recognizes outstanding contributions in the field of biological engineering.  In memory of Professor James Bailey for his many pioneering contributions to biotechnology, this year the award is being presented to three individuals who have had an important impact on biomedical engineering and whose achievements have advanced this profession in any of its aspects. 
2006 recipients: The team consists of Professor Robert Langer of MIT, Professor Edwin Lightfoot of the University of Wisconsin, and Professor Nicholas Peppas of the University of Texas, Austin.  Professor Langer will be delivering the Bailey Award Lecture titled, "Biomedical and Chemical Engineering: Status and Future Directions."
"They are being recognized for their work in the field of biomedical engineering.  Professor Langer is best known for his work in transdermal drug delivery.  Professor Lightfoot is recognized for his work in biological mass-transfer and separations processes.  Professor Peppas is known for the development of biomedical and drug-delivery applications of polymer networks and hydrogels.  All three are members of the National Academy of Engineering.  Professor Langer will be delivering the Bailey Award Lecture."
