BioFlex single-use tubing assemblies provide secure fluid paths and accommodate flowrates in excess of 100 L/min. They can be used to connect single-use and stainless-steel process equipment, and can integrate sterilizing-grade and clarification-grade capsule filters. BioFlex assemblies are provided sterile and ready for immediate use. They incorporate user-specified tubing material, connectors, and filters to eliminate onsite assembly concerns.
FlexFill assembly
The FlexFill assembly enables single-use biocontainer transfer. It provides a convenient way to aseptically transfer small bottled volumes of cell culture media, sera, reagents, supplements, buffers, and microcarriers to a bioreactor. It is delivered sterile, and is available in volumes from 500 mL to 6 L. Assemblies can be customized to support aseptic connectivity with a host of fitting and tubing options to allow for a seamless integration with the process.
UltraCap H.D. high-capacity inline capsule filter
The UltraCap H.D. high-capacity inline capsule filter is designed for seamless integration into single-use systems (SUSs), such as the firm’s own One-Touch SUS as well as compatible SUSs from other companies, for critical pharmaceutical and biomanufacturing applications. It is available with removal ratings from 0.04 μm to 99 μm. Filter membrane materials include polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), polyethersulfone (PES), polypropylene (PP), and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The inline UltraCap can also be supplied with microfiber prefilter media made of PP or borosilicate glass, and PP depth media. A gamma-irradiated version is available for aseptic processing.
FluoroFlex biocontainers
FluoroFlex biocontainers are the most recent addition to this firm’s One-Touch portfolio of single-use systems. They are made of a new generation, multilayer, coextruded polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film that has been optimized to meet the pharmaceutical industry’s most demanding requirements. They have an inherently pure PVDF product-contact layer that is free of additives, has an extremely low leachables and extractables profile, and provides thermal stability and chemical resistance that exceed the limits of traditional polyethylene-based biocontainers. An exceptional ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) gas barrier coupled with the inherent purity help to mitigate the risk of degradation of process solutions and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) stored and processed in the biocontainers. In addition, thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) strength layers in the FluoroFlex film structure render it strong, yet highly flexible. FluoroFlex film is certified to be animal-component-free (ACF). The film is extruded, manufactured into biocontainers, and packaged in ISO Class 7 cleanrooms.
BioFlex fluid-path assemblies
The BioFlex fluid-path assemblies are single-use tubing and filter/tubing units designed for secure fluid transfer in critical biopharmaceutical processing applications. They can be customized to meet the end-user’s requirements for tubing material, connections, and various other components to create a secure fluid path. They can also be used in conventional or hybrid facilities to connect single-use and stainless steel processing equipment. BioFlex assemblies can be integrated with sterilizing-grade filter capsules that use polyethersulfone (PES) or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes, or with depth media for clarification. BioFlex tubing and filter/tubing assemblies are supplied gamma-irradiated to ensure sterility and are fully documented using the firm’s prequalified component library.
UltraCap H.D. capsule filter
The UltraCap H.D. (heavy-duty) single-use, high-capacity capsule filter is now available in a 50-in. configuration for large-volume filtration. It is optimized for continuous and batch processing in biomanufacturing operations and for prefiltration and final filtration in pharmaceutical applications. The capsule can be specified with removal ratings from 0.04 μm to 99 μm. The UltraCap H.D. is offered with T-style sanitary flange inlet and outlet connections, and can be specified in additional nominal lengths of 10 in., 20 in., 30 in., and 40 in. to give users maximum scale-up flexibility. Gamma-irradiated UltraCap H.D. is available for aseptic applications.
