A companion to the FlowCAM particle-analysis instrumentation, which automatically detects, images, and identifies particles and microorganisms, VisualSpreadsheet V3.0 enables custom graphing and lets users evaluate and display the data from numerous different perspectives. For instance, users can create custom scattergrams and histograms, without re-running the sample, simply by choosing the variables to be plotted on the x and y axes from a menu of 32 different measurement parameters. By allowing key characteristics about the particle — such as size, length, width, perimeter, roughness, intensity, fluororescence, and more — to be quickly switched during and after processing, VisualSpreadsheet V3.0 enables more than 1,000 different combinations to be visualized and analyzed. The system comes with all of the company’s new FlowCam instrumentation systems, and is backwards compatible with existing systems already in the field.

FlowCAM particle-imaging and analysis system
The latest FlowCAM particle-imaging and analysis system processes small, sparse or otherwise limited samples in volumes as minute as 50 µL. Its proprietary flow-control software and advanced syringe pump replace manual sample-handling and flow control setup with an automated process that enables the operator to load the sample, press start and walk away while the sample runs unattended. The FlowCAM ensures that virtually the entire sample is properly presented to the flow cell for improved accuracy in the real-time detection, imaging, counting and measurement of particles and microorganisms. This makes it ideal for the analysis of parentals and other biopharmaceuticals, precious metals, explosive powders and other products where detecting every particle or cell present is of paramount importance and extra samples are not available for repeat analysis. For compliance with FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11, the FlowCAM automatically assigns a date/time stamp to all images and measurements and creates an audit trail for future review and analysis.

The automated FlowCAM particle analysis system provides high-resolution, full-color digital images of every individual particle analyzed. This enables plastic resin manufacturers, compounders, testing laboratories and processors to verify and document whether a batch of material meets quality specifications prior to shipment or upon arrival. Combining sophisticated digital imaging with traditional particle analysis tools, the FlowCAM accurately measures particle count, concentration, size, length, width and shape, as well as a series of proprietary, advanced parameters such as intensity, transparency, color, roughness, compactness and others. The FlowCAM detects and counts particles ranging in size from 1 µm to 5 mm, which are often overlooked in other systems, resulting in highly accurate data, precise particle-size-distribution measurements, and ultimately improved uniformity. With a simple mouse-click on a particle-size distribution, the FlowCAM permits in-depth, particle-by-particle review, visual analysis and cross-referencing. Within a data set, operators can qualify and quantify sub-populations, such as particles above a certain size, to determine not only how many oversized particles are in a batch of material, but also whether they are in fact oversized particles or merely agglomerations.
