Manual Dumping Station
Designed to collect dust created during manual dumping of powder and bulk solid materials, this manual dumping station with integral flexible screw conveyor features a high-velocity vacuum fan that draws airborne dust from the operator’s atmosphere onto two cartridge filters. Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous, efficient operation; timer-activated solenoid valves release short blasts of compressed plant air inside cartridge filters causing dust build-up on the outer filter surfaces to fall into the hopper. Filters are accessed easily by removing the interior baffle, and replaced rapidly using quick-disconnect fittings. The flexible screw conveyor is said to handle freeand non-free-flowing bulk materials ranging from large pellets to sub-micron powders, including products that pack, cake, seize, smear, fluidize, break apart or separate.
dumping system for pneumatic conveying systems
This dumping station for pneumatic conveying systems collects dust during manual dumping of powder and bulk solids from bags, boxes, drums and other containers. The hopper is configured with a non-flow-through adapter for introducing material into vacuum pneumatic conveyor lines, or with rotary airlock valves or outlets for connection to flexible screw conveyors, other conveyors or process equipment. The unit features a high-velocity vacuum fan that draws airborne dust from the operator’s atmosphere onto two cartridge filters. Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous operation. The station is mounted on frames with a boom and casters for mobility, and is constructed from carbon steel with an industrial finish, or stainless steel finished to industrial, food, dairy or pharmaceutical standards.
Inline pneumatic batching system
This inline pneumatic batching system allows simultaneous weigh batching of major ingredients supplied in bulk bags and manual dumping of pre-weighed minor ingredients, and blending of the material, while a subsequent batch is accumulated. Each of the bulk bag dischargers is mounted on load cells, allowing loss-of-weight batching from either or both bulk bags. A system controller starts and stops each discharger’s rotary airlock valve to weigh ingredients, first at high feed rate for rapid filling, then at dribble feed rate, stopping material flow once the accurate batch weight has been discharged. System software allows mid-batch bag changes. Minor, pre-weighed ingredients are added at the manual dumping station after the major ingredients have been discharged from the bulk bags. The dilute-phase, vacuum conveyor line terminates at a filter receiver that accumulates the batch before discharging it through a slide gate valve into a ribbon blender, allowing concurrent batching and blending of materials, cutting cycle times by half.
Half Frame Bulk Bag Unloader
The Half Frame Bulk Bag Unloader offers economical, total dust containment by eliminating the upper-frame components to lift and/or position the bag, instead relying on the user’s forklift or plant hoist to suspend the bag above the unit during operation. The bag-to-hopper interface consists of a Spout-Lock clamp ring positioned atop a pneumatically actuated Tele-Tube telescoping tube, allowing dust-tight connections and unrestricted flow between the bag spout and hopper, as well as automatic tensioning of the bag as it empties. The unit’s discharger is equipped with Flow-Flexer bag activators that raise and lower the opposite bottom edges of the bag at timed intervals, loosening compacted materials and promoting material flow into the bag discharge spout.
BFC Series Weighing/Batching System
The BFC Series weighing/batching system features bag activators that raise and lower the opposite bottom edges of a bag at timed intervals, loosening compacted materials and promoting material flow. Each discharger is equipped with a surge hopper that discharges into an enclosed flexible screw conveyor. A controller starts and stops the conveyors to weigh ingredients in sequence, first at a high feed rate for rapid filling, then at a dribble, stopping flow when the desired weight has been discharged. The controller then activates a rotary airlock valve to release the batch into a pneumatic conveyor line, which terminates at a filter receiver above a ribbon blender. Components are made from carbon or stainless steel.
Hydraulic Bulk Bag Conditioner
The Hydraulic Bulk Bag Conditioner loosens bulk solid material that has solidified during storage and shipment, enabling bulk bag unloaders to discharge it through bag spouts. The conditioner features two hydraulic rams with specially-contoured end plates to press opposing sides of the bulk bags. An optional hydraulically-actuated, variable-height turntable allows in-frame bag rotation and conditioning of bulk bags at varying heights. The number and pressure of hydraulic ram actuations, the height of the turntable, and the number of 90-deg rotations are user adjustable. The conditioner is fully enclosed on all four sides for operator safety and includes full-height doors that are interlocked to disallow operation of the system when the doors are open. The unit is intended for bulk bags containing hygroscopic chemicals, certain types of spice blends, heat-sensitive products, and other materials prone to solidifying to the point at which pneumatically actuated flow promotion accessories integral to bulk bag dischargers are inefficient or ineffective.

Ultrasonex blinding control system
The Ultrasonex blinding control system reduces blinding and bridging in a screener handling difficult or sticky materials, such as metal powders, paints and coatings, pharmaceuticals, plastic resins, toners, foods and various chemicals. It uses a transducer probe to apply ultrasonic vibration directly to the screening mesh. This vibration is in addition to the screener’s vibratory motion, providing a secondary, high-frequency low-amplitude vibration that reduces mesh blinding, reduces screen tension, and improves screener performance. Its fully detachable ultrasonic probe incorporates a titanium core for high durability that eliminates wear on contact surfaces. It is available on new screeners and can be retrofitted to existing units.
Rotex Minerals Separator
Specifically designed to screen mined minerals and abrasives, such as sand, roofing granules, potash, salt, clay, borax and other high-capacity materials, the Rotex Minerals Separator provides excellent screening performance because of equal feed distribution to all screen decks, uniform bed depth across the entire screen surface, and a reduction in screen blinding due to the use of durable metal spring balls. The product features a stacked, multiple-deck arrangement with tray access design, allowing for individual screen access without the need to remove all decks. A patented Lift-Rail system with a nonblinding stainless steel mechanism enables easy installation and removal of the screen frame. The screen deck is sloped at an angle of six degrees, which maximizes screen efficiency and meets demanding product specifications. An easily accessible external drive cartridge allows continuous operation at temperatures up to 200°C and is designed for 200,000 hours of service.
Rotex Centrifugal Sifter
Designed to meet high-capacity sifting for bulk load-in/load-out and larger process applications, the Rotex Centrifugal Sifter can handle a wide variety of powders, granules, agglomerates and other free-flowing materials. Processed particles ranging in size from 1⁄4 in. to 44 μm (325 mesh) are scalped with ease. The combination of high centrifugal force and blade spreading action reduces binding problems, even when handling materials that tend to flake or agglomerate due to fat or moisture content. The spreading action of the sifter’s rotating blades distributes product around the sieve cylinder for complete utilization of screen area and conveys oversize particles to discharge. Accelerated particles impinging against the sieve cause it to vibrate and clean itself. Because it is totally enclosed, the sifter is not subject to dust problems. ROTEX Inc.

This design fills the entire mixing vessel with fluidized material, maximizing transfer rates while minimizing impact and degradation. The unit can achieve 100% uniform blends in ratios to one part per thousand, blend significantly faster than conventional trough-style horizontal mixers, and handle a greater variety of materials, except for pastes. It is available as a jacketed unit for heating and cooling applications, and with high-speed intensifiers to increase product dispersion and shear; automated controls, stainless steel construction finished to sanitary standards; and spray nozzles to coat or agglomerate particles, often with less liquid than would be required with trough-style horizontal blenders.
Sanitary, Jacketed Rotary Batch Mixer
The model 700-TH-20-SSJ, sanitary, jacketed rotary batch mixer is designed with a stationary inlet and discharge, and a rotating drum with proprietary mixing flights that tumble, turn and fold material gently while achieving 100% uniformity in two to three minutes. Disparities in the bulk densities, particle sizes or flow characteristics of batch ingredients do not impair mixing, according to the company. The mixer can be piped to an in-plant chiller to prevent heat-sensitive bulk products from agglomerating, clumping, degrading, smearing and/or sticking to contact surfaces of mixing and packaging machinery or to the final consumer packaging. It can also be connected to an inplant steam, hot water or hot oil system to maintain elevated material temperatures during processing. Models range in capacity from 10 to 600 ft3 and are equally effective at blending batches ranging from 5% to 100% of rated capacity, obviating the need for multiple mixers in some cases.
Maxum 30
The Maxum 30 can shred 1,6000-lb blocks of abrasive materials, such as alumina oxide composites, asphalt and resins. Blocks as large as 2 ft by 2 ft by 6 ft can be reduced to particles within narrow size ranges determined by the diameter of bed-screen perforations, which can range from 1/32 in. to 1-1/2 in. Each of two rotors has a staggered array of specially treated solid carbide conical tips. Two 14-in-dia. counter-rotating shafts rotate at 25–35 rpm, producing up to 240 ft3/h of sized product.

Primarily employed for coarse grinding of materials into particles of uniform sizes ranging from granules down to 20–30 mesh, the cutter has a 30-in. (762 mm) throat width and can be fitted with 60 parallelograms with 120 cutter inserts. Bed screen perforations range from 1/32 to 1-1/2-in. dia. and up to 3-in. square, depending on material characteristics and desired particle size. The 11-in. shaft rotates at 30–3,600 rev/min producing up to 1,000 ft3 of sized product per hour, depending on the application. Munson Machinery Co.
Hammer Mill Model 141
The Hammer Mill Model 141 reduces friable and fibrous materials into uniform particle sizes ranging from 20 to 300 mesh. Centrifugal force causes pivoting hammers to stand at 90-deg to the rotating shaft, throwing material against breaker plate ridges in the feed section, and then against perforated bed screens through which sized material exits. The shaft, integral hammer discs, disc pins and hammers are driven by a 75-hp motor at 1,800–4,000 rev/min, achieving hammer tip speeds of 8,700–19,500 ft/min even under heavy loads, reducing a broad variety of solid material into particles at high rates. The mill can pulverize wood scraps, process grain, break-down impact resistant housings, destroy ammunition shells, pulverize newspaper, separate rubber from cord fiber, and reduce the size of a variety of other chemical, plastic, rubber and agricultural products. Particle size is determined by the size of the screen perforations. In addition to a lower 180-deg cylinder screen, the unit features an extra 90-deg screen located in the hinged section of top case, increasing screen area by 50% to a total of 270-deg, utilizing the entire area of the case.
MX-1-SSJ miniature rotary batch mixer

The unit has Type 304 stainless steel contact surfaces, wide spacing of internal flights for easy access, continuous polished welds, and external moveable seals. Construction of exotic alloys as well as carbon steel, and configurations with clean-in-place (CIP) vessel-cleaning nozzles, are available. The mixer features an internal spray line for liquid additions, a discharge chute to direct the flow of exiting materials, and an insulated, jacketed mixing drum that can be piped to an oil, steam or chiller system. It can blend batches from 100% to 15% of its 1-ft3 capacity, and can distribute ingredients with 100% uniformity regardless of disparities in the bulk densities, particle sizes or flow characteristics of batch ingredients. Its mixing process moves material from the sides of the vessel and folds it back toward the horizontal axis, which effects both a diagonal and a vertical tumbling motion. Lifters continuously cut out portions of the material and fold them back into the main body of the batch, resulting in rapid particle distribution without degradation. This process causes most of the particles to contact the jacketed vessel’s heated or chilled walls, maximizing heat-transfer efficiency.

Pebco Mass Flow Feeder
Mass Flow Feeder The Pebco Mass Flow Feeder is a controllable high-capacity gravity feeder for relatively coarse granular materials. The feeder consists of a mass flow hopper with two movable sides that control the discharge rate. The flowrate is a function of the discharge opening width and the slope of the blades. The minimum flowrate is limited by the opening width at which the material arches across the opening. Turndown rates of 10 to 1 can normally be expected. The units generally handle flowrates from a single discharge point from 1,000 ton/h to 10,000 ton/h.

Optiswitch 3000
The Optiswitch 3000, for the level detection of bulk solids, and the 5000, for the level detection of liquids, are virtually unaffected by the chemical and physical properties of their respective application media, including density, conductivity, viscosity and dielectric constant. Key to the Optiswitch’s robust operation is a tuning fork that is energized piezoelectrically and vibrates at the mechanical resonance frequency. Because the piezo is fixed mechanically, it is not subject to temperature shock limitations. When the tuning fork is immersed in a liquid or solid, the vibrating frequency changes, is detected by the integrated oscillator, and is converted into a switching command. Both the 3000 and 5000 are available in standard- and extended-tube versions, and the 3000 is also offered in a cable version.

Donaldson Torit
www.donaldson.comUltra-Web SB Filter Cartridges
An extension of this manufacturer’s nanofiber media technology, Ultra-Web SB is a new, tougher filter media for dust collection in chemical, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, textile and other manufacturing processes that face challenges from agglomerative dust. The filter media combines the excellent surface-loading and dust release capabilities of Ultra-Web nanofibers with a strong spunbond polyester substrate, to create filter cartridges with durability, moisture and chemical tolerance, long life, high efficiency, and significantly lower pressure drop for energy-efficient operation when compared to spunbond or meltblown media. Ultra-Web SB cartridges also feature wide pleat spacing, which allows thorough pulse cleaning of fine and fibrous particulate. The spunbond substrate is made without resins; consequently, Ultra-Web SB cartridges can potentially be used where challenging conditions (e.g., higher temperature, chemicals and moisture) could weaken or destroy the resin system within standard substrate media. Ultra-Web SB is currently offered in four cartridge sizes for the manufacturer’s self-cleaning cartridge-style dust collectors — Downflo, Downflo II, Downflo Oval, and large TD-style collector
Triple-Sealed Bag-In/Bag-Out (BIBO) system
The Triple-Sealed Bag-In/Bag-Out (BIBO) system ensures dust containment during filter replacement operations in chemical and pharmaceutical applications. The containment bags are made of a rugged, proprietary material, Armorflex, which is designed to withstand tough handling operations. To avoid cuts, tears or holes in the bags, the system’s design does not expose the bags to the inside of the dirty air plenum, where abrasion is likely. Instead, the system is mounted on the outside of the manufacturer’s Downflo dust collector; the clean-change bags are stored on the clean air side, away from the dirty air plenum, which minimizes worker exposure to potentially hazardous compounds. The bag-changing procedure cycles only one filter at a time and can be executed efficiently by one person.
