FlexStream modular gas-standards-generating system
The new FlexStream modular gas-standards-generating system uses proprietary Trace Source permeation tubes that add precise concentrations of sulfur compounds to nitrogen, ethylene or propylene matrices. Typical polymerization processes require monomers with concentrations less than 1 ppmw total sulfur, less than 1 ppmw H2S, and less than 50 ppbw of COS. Calibration standards at those levels are not readily available and tend to be unstable in storage. The FlexStream system is configured with two permeation ovens and a secondary dilution module, and it can produce mixtures containing H2S, COS, and a range of higher-boiling sulfur compounds (such as dimethyl sulfide and thiophene) to assure accurate desired total sulfur levels. An internal microprocessor system sets dilution flows and selects the proper operating mode to create specific concentrations.

Quizix QX precision metering pumps
Quizix QX precision metering pumps are designed for pulse-free fluid delivery. They offer continuous, pulse-free pumping at a constant rate or constant pressure — an important objective for critical fluid-delivery and extraction applications such as catalyst injection and chromatography, lab-scale and pilot plant operations, and other applications where precision flowrates or volumetric measurements are critical. They can also be used to maintain a constant differential pressure by using inputs from remote pressure transducers. The QX pump has a two-cylinder design for continuous pulse-free pumping of fluid, and each cylinder is able to operate independently for intermittent pumping of two different fluids. Five models are available with pressure ranges up to 20,000 psi. The user interfaces monitor the detailed status of the pump, including piston positions and direction, valve positions, flowrate, pressure, cylinder volume, and cumulative volume pumped. KSonic Micro
The KSonic Micro is a compact, low-cost, ultrasonic level transmitter/ switch that is designed for liquid and bulk solids level applications. Ultrasonic measurements are based on the time of flight (TOF) of an acoustic wave that is emitted from a transducer and directed toward the product being measured. This wave is reflected back toward the transducer and then converted to an electric signal. Its variable GAP (gain, amplitude and power) technology provides a very narrow beam angle of less than 4 deg., which allows the transmitter to take accurate measurements in narrow vessels, and function in the presence of dust, vapor or foam. It measures liquid levels to 32.8 ft (10 m) and bulk solids to 16 ft (5 m). Its 4–20-mA output is standard for remote indication or remote control, and it has a single-pole/double-throw (SPDT) relay that can be used to activate alarms and pumps. The unit is housed in an IP65 polycarbonate enclosure and the transducer has polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) wetted parts for corrosive environments.

SenseLine ELDS series open-path gas detectors
SenseLine ELDS (enhanced laser diode spectroscopy) series open-path gas detectors feature the manufacturer’s patented Simu-Gas technology, which eliminates in-field gas testing and allows users to perform remote, on-command, functional testing of the detectors from a programmable logic controller (PLC) at a control center or from a PDA. Simu-Gas controls both the synthesis of laser diode drive waveforms in a transmitter and the recognition of “harmonic fingerprints” by a receiver. Unique harmonic fingerprints are produced when a target gas in the monitored path absorbs the transmitter’s laser diode radiation. When the receiver recognizes the fingerprint, it calculates and then displays the quantity of the target gas. The accuracy of the gas detector is confirmed by comparing the gas reading on the receiver to the quantity of target gas simulated by the transmitter. Testing can be performed at any desired frequency with automatic data logging, and without having to physically access individual gas detectors or handle hazardous gas cylinders.

The FineAlyzer measures and analyzes dust particles in accordance with ASTM procedures to avoid  vigorous movement or friction of pellets during the fines separation process. The technology is based on the principle that unwanted dust and fines will typically adhere to larger pellets and will be removed by rinsing the test sample with a liquid (preferably demineralized water). This process washes away dust and fines into a beaker. Particles are then poured into the filter collection unit, which separates the fines from the water. The parts-per-million concentration is determined by comparing the weight of the filter paper before and after the process. The wet analysis quantifies the amounts of dust having particle sizes from 1.6 to 500 µm.

Instrument System
This instrument system monitors plastics and chemicals processing online in real-time. Its central platform incorporates multiple sensors that can simultaneously measure electrical, optical, and rheological material properties. It can use dielectric, optical, fluorescence spectroscopy, pressure, ultrasonic, or temperature sensors that are positioned in ports along a slit die. As processed material flows through the slit, sensors monitor variations in properties caused by changes in process parameters. Sensor data provide a continual stream of real-time information that is analyzed by the system software and placed into spreadsheets that are archived and can be used to develop process models. Using multiple sensors to measure a range of physical properties during processing can preclude the need for additional offline, post-manufacturing quality-control measurements.

CO2 Sensor
This sensor measures gaseous carbon dioxide in two ranges: 0–10,000 ppm and 0–100,000 ppm. It connects directly to the manufacturer’s LabNavigator instrument for continuous monitoring, time-based experiments, and routine facility monitoring. The sensor monitors changes in CO2 levels in surrounding ambient air, respiration of organisms, and/or reactions in a chamber. It is easily calibrated using a single button, and operates in a humidity range of 5–95% (non-condensing). The instrument has a response time of 95% of full-scale reading in 120 s, and provides accuracy to ±100 ppm with resolution of 3 ppm (low range) or 30 ppm (high range). The sensor can be used alone or with up to four other sensors, including GPS for mapping data points. Data may be exported to MS Excel using the NavPilot software that is provided with a LabNavigator instrument.

ARC sensor system
The ARC sensor system measures pH, dissolved oxygen and conductivity. Each sensor has a built-in microprocessor that communicates with both analog (4–20-mA) and digital ModBus interfaces. Direct connectivity eliminates the need to send information through costly transmitters. Its signals are more robust and reliable than the low currents or voltages produced in classical measurement systems. The sensors can be precalibrated and configured in the lab, reducing costs and downtime associated with installation. Online and offline sensor management extends sensor life and increases process accuracy in challenging production environments. Digital technology allows the creation of wired or wireless sensor networks. The ARC View Handheld has a display configured with ARC Wi wireless communication, which enables users to move around the facility to monitor data from multiple sensors. Sensors are suitable for cleaning in place (CIP), and can be sterilized with autoclaving or sterilization in place (SIP).

DK10 process flap flowmeter
The DK10 process flap flowmeter is available in a large selection of wetted construction materials, including aluminum, bronze, cast iron, stainless steel, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Its shafts can be made of titanium, Hastelloy or plastic for processing aggressive liquids. The flowmeter is available with a choice of one or two alarm level outputs, as well as an analog 4–20-mA output. The flow in the line causes a spring-loaded flap mounted inside the unit’s hemispherical chamber to deflect by an amount that is directly proportional to the flowrate. This movement is transmitted, via a shaft that is isolated from the process, to a mechanical pointer, and the flowrate is displayed on a scale. Each flowmeter is calibrated for the specific liquid being monitored based on customer specifications. The units are available with G or NPT threads for 0.25–2.0-in. pipes and as a wafer for mounting between two DIN or ANSI flanges on DN80 (3 in.) to DN200 (8 in.) pipes,
