Yokogawa has released a new upgrade to its Advanced Alarm Administrator (AAASuite, Version R1.20). AAASuite is a comprehensive alarm-management system that improves operator performance by minimizing nuisance alarms and providing timely notification of only necessary alarms, thereby preventing alarm flooding and enabling safe, stable and cost-effective plant operations. Version R1.20 includes an optional static alarm suppression function that facilitates equipment-based simultaneous suppression of alarms at start-up, shutdown, or upset of a plant. AAASuite R1.20 also enables the unlimited use of Yokogawa legacy controllers, which makes it suitable for systems that combine the CENTUM V, XL, and CS controllers.

Retaining all the features and functions of earlier Admag flowmeters, the Admag AXF magnetic flowmeter offers new diagnostics to detect electrode coating. By constantly monitoring the change in the impedance of the electrode circuit due to the build-up of insulating coatings, the AXF converter will display four different levels of coating and provide an alarm function. Optional replaceable electrodes make maintenance and cleaning easier, because the user can rely on the new predictive diagnostics to monitor the status of the electrodes and then remove them for cleaning when necessary.

The X-am 7000 can be fitted with three electrochemical and two infrared optical or catalytic sensors, and can simultaneously measure up to five gases. A choice of over 25 sensors allows the detection of more than 100 gases and vapors. The instrument is dust- and splash-proof, as well as water-resistant with a water-ingress-protection rating of IP67. A high-delivery pump can draw in sample gas through a hose up to 150 ft (45 m) long. When the instrument is in leak-detection mode, it displays a ppm bar graph on the display and emits an ascending or descending tone similar to a Geiger to reflect the detected gas concentration.

Intended for permanent installations where power is available, AquaProbe 1 connects with the company’s MagMaster transmitter. It offers 4–20-mA analog output and HART communication options. AquaProbe 2, powered by a battery pack, primarily serves temporary installations, such as checking, verifying and certifying meters. These flowmeters are available in lengths of 12, 20, 25 and 40 in., for pipe diameters ranging from 8 in. to 320 in. Accuracy is better than ±2% of flowrate, and battery life is up to five years.

The Sysmex FPIA-3000 automated particle shape and size analyzer now has the capability to measure particles suspended in nonaqueous solvents, as well as those in water-based materials. This is especially important in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, where there is often a requirement to measure the shape and size of particles that are soluble in water. The Sysmex FPIA-3000 can now accommodate all common solvents, including acetone, methylethylketone, ethyl acetone, xylene and toluene. This instrument can measure particles in the range of 0.8–300 µm and, using a CCD camera, produces images of each particle as well as a scattergram of shape index versus particle size in just 2.5 min. Samples pass through a sheath flowcell that transforms the particle suspension into a narrow or flat flow, ensuring that the largest area of the particle is oriented towards the camera, and that all particles are in focus. The CCD camera captures 60 images/s; these images are analyzed in realtime.

Earlier versions of the Micro Motion ELITE flowmeter provide flow measurements with ±0.10% accuracy. In this latest rendition, accuracy is ±0.05% for mass and volumetric flow, and up to ±0.0002 g/cm3 for density — representing a two-fold improvement in density performance. The device is designed for chemical dosing, high-value custody transfer and other applications where precise measurement is critical. In addition, overall meter stability is boosted to a level that eliminates the need for field zeroing. Samples can be placed on top of the instrument, so that minimal sample preparation is required. The integrating sphere achieves highly accurate and fast diffuse-reflectance measurements of a wide range of powders and solids, including polymers, plastics, natural materials and incoming feed materials. These types of analyses are of primary interest to research and analytical services in the polymer industry as well as raw material manufacturers. When coupled with the company’s Nicolet FT-IR spectrometers, the integrating sphere leads to automatic optimization of the entire system, thereby eliminating errors and saving time through maintenance of appropriate experimental conditions. The SPECTRACAP oxygen transmitter OMT355 measures oxygen concentration optically by analyzing the absorption of light (generated by a tunable diode laser (TDL)), and associating that data to the wavelength characteristic of the oxygen molecule. A compact probe suitable for field use, the OMT355 can be flange-mounted directly into a process without sampling or sample conditioning equipment, providing the user with realtime measurement data without sample-switching delays. This double eccentricity reduces seal friction and wear, resulting in longer service life, minimal maintenance and better protection against pressure surges. It also lowers the torque required to operate the valve, easing manual operation and allowing the use of smaller, less expensive actuators. HRC-A is shipped as a concentrate and mixed onsite with three parts warm water to form a micellular microemulsion, which has greater soil-coverage capacity than comparable products. As the solution is pumped throughout an aquifer, it slowly releases lactic acid, which is fermented by naturally occurring bacteria. The hydrogen that is released accelerates the biodegradation processes and reduction of the target contaminants to harmless end-products.
