AMISTCO Improved Pall Ring (AIPR)
The AMISTCO improved pall ring (AIPR) allows greater capacity, lower pressure drop, and even and thorough gas and liquid bed distribution. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including gas dehydration, demethanizing, tall oil fractionating, CO2/H2S removal, high-vacuum distillation and vacuum crude stills. Although similar in outward appearance to Pall rings, AIPR packing offers more interior surface due to more twists and bends in the internal geometry. The manufacturer claims this geometric configuration creates greater gas/liquid contacting and 25–30% more transfer points per cubic foot than standard Pall rings. The AIPR’s high-strength geometry makes it well-suited for deep beds. The packing is available in a wide range of metal and alloy materials.

High-Viscosity Valves
These custom-designed rotary valves have helped a manufacturer of DNA analysis instruments solve a seemingly intractable problem. The instrument, which uses very high viscosity fluids, needed inert valves with sufficient shear force to cut through the fluid, acting as shut-off valves. The solution was a 1-mm-bore custom-designed rotary valve with a stainless steel rotor for torsion strength, a Tefzel liner for chemical inertness, and a PEEK body for rigidity. The shape of the rotor was carefully profiled to give a clean cut through the fluid, ensuring an instant start/stop of the flow. The valve can operate up to a pressure of 1,000 psi and is controlled by TTL or RS-232 protocols. Optical encoders are used to provide precise port positioning, enabling maximum flow of the fluid every time.

Optimass 7300 Coriolis mass flowmeter
This tantalum version of the Optimass 7300 Coriolis mass flowmeter handles highly aggressive and corrosive fluids found in the chemical industry. Because the wall thickness of typical Coriolis measuring tubes is significantly less than the process piping they connect to, the meter’s corrosion tolerance is significantly less than that of the associated piping. This tantalum flowmeter uses a single straight-tube design, which is less expensive to produce than earlier twin-bent-tube designs and contains the stress created in a straight tube due to thermal expansion. It is made of tantalum Ta10W, an alloy of 90% tantalum with 10% tungsten for additional tensile strength.

Type 567/568 butterfly valve series
Designed for industrial, potable and wastewater treatment systems, the Type 567/568 butterfly valve series features a double-eccentric-disk design typically found only in high-end metallic configurations. This double eccentricity reduces seal friction and wear, resulting in longer service life, minimal maintenance and better protection against pressure surges. It also lowers the torque required to operate the valve, easing manual operation and allowing the use of smaller, less expensive actuators. The 567/568 series feature a modular design ranging in size from 2 in. to 8 in., with either a glass-filled polypropylene wafer body (Type 567), or an epoxy-coated iron lug body (Type 568). The inner body, disks, and bearings are available in PVC, polypropylene and polyvinylidene fluoride. The lockable ergonomic lever enhances worker safety via a 5-deg ratchet setting that ensures precise positioning of the lever and eliminates incidental movement due to accidental bumping of the handle. Other safety features include an integrated electric position indicator in the mounting flange that shows whether the valve is open or closed. An index plate clearly indicates the angle opening in degrees.

Type 568 lug-style butterfly valve
The Type 568 lug-style butterfly valve has shaft seals that incorporate a double O-ring to protect against external leakage. A disc seal replaces the traditional rubber liner to allow the disc to completely disengage from the seal upon valve opening, reducing friction and improving wear capabilities. The disc seal also incorporates a cross-sectional profile that mechanically retains the seal in the valve body. And a specially engineered body seal features a Q-shaped O-ring that eliminates the need for flat gaskets. The valve has a modular design with an epoxy-coated iron lug body. The wetted inner body, disc and bearings are available in PVC, chlorinated PVC (CPVC), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) or polypropylene (PP) to match the outer pipe material, providing excellent chemical compatibility throughout the system. With a pressure rating of 150 psi, the valve can withstand operating temperatures up to 120°C (PVDF), 80°C (PP and CPVC) or 60°C (PVC). Designed for dead-end service, the valve enables a piping system to be capped off, yet allows future modification or expansion of the pipeline without depressurizing the system.

Continuous 40-ft. Pipes
Pipes in 40-ft sections are especially useful for transfer lines and other long, straight runs. They come in swaged polytetrafluoroethylene- (PTFE), polypropylene- (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride- (PVDF) lined pipe in 1.5- to 6-in. sizes, and in perfluoroalkoxy- (PFA)lined pipe in 1.5- to 2-in. sizes. Plastic-lined pipe that is loose-lined or reverse-swaged — where the liner is compressed then inserted into a steel shell, where it expands —has  been limited in length to 20 ft. Longer sections are fabricated by compressing the steel shell down on the liner during the picking and swaging process. This locks the liner in place to inhibit differential movement during temperature cycling.

Flexeramic structured packing
Designed for acid applications, Flexeramic structured packing provides a lower pressure drop than most other random packings and trays on the market. Composed of corrugated ceramic sheets that are vertically aligned in the packed column, the elements eliminate any horizontal surfaces that may create resistance to fluid flow. This geometric construction reduces the channeling of both liquid and vapor, and provides for more effective contact of sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide gas. This increased efficiency offers improvements in moisture removal from incoming air, which minimizes the opportunity for SO3 slip along the absorber wall. Substituting this packing in standard packed or tray columns can achieve a pressure drop decrease of up to 60% and improve efficiency by 2%, resulting in lower energy costs for most distillation and absorption operations.

Stargate-O-Port slide-gate valve
The Stargate-O-Port slide-gate valve (or through-port valve) features a well-guided blade — with a hole in the middle — passing through both ends of the valve body. This design offers several advantages. Foreign matter does not get trapped in the bottom of the valve or jammed between the gate and the body. This prevents seat damage so that the valve always seats and seals well. The valve has a class VI shut-off, independent of the pressure differential between upstream and downstream side. Over 97% of the valve’s body thickness is solid material, resulting in a very stiff valve body. Capable of handling pressure shock waves and aggressive flow media, the valve is virtually maintenance-free and can be installed in any position in the pipe since it does not have a preferential flow direction.

Series 70CV3000 Chloromatic 3000 gas-flow control valve
The Series 70CV3000 Chloromatic 3000 gas-flow control valve is a wall-mounted system designed for automatic control of chemical feed in water or wastewater applications. The integrated, microprocessor-based controller has a control valve that responds to multiple process signals from a water flow transmitter or chlorine residual analyzer. The Chloromatic 3000 eliminates the need for continuous operator monitoring and manual adjustment of the gas feed rate resulting from changes in flow and/or residual levels. Automating the chemical feed process typically leads to a reduction in gas consumption for water and wastewater utilities, since manual feed rates are based on peak process conditions. The Chloromatic 3000 is field-configurable for flow proportioning, residual, compound-loop or feed-forward control. While it features ten range capacities from 10 to 3,000 lb/d (up to 60 kg/h) for chlorine, it is also suitable for use with sulfur dioxide, ammonia and carbon dioxide. The system comes standard with an 11-step calibration of the valve plug that yields a true gas flow retransmission signal and eliminates the need for a separate linearized D/P transmitter. The Chloromatic 3000 is used in conjunction with a vacuum regulator, gas flowmeter and an ejector to provide a complete disinfection system.

PlusT Clean and Repair program
The PlusT Clean and Repair program allows companies to extend the life of broken reusable bulk containers that would otherwise be relegated to the scrap yard or stored on valuable floor space. By putting broken units back to work, customers save on the cost of purchasing new containers. The program is simple and cost-effective. Containers are inspected and sorted based on whether they can or cannot be repaired. Close attention is paid to structural integrity and other safety factors that may render a container unsafe or not repairable. Typical inspection points include broken doors, latches, holes and cracks. Each repaired container is then again physically inspected for complete and safe reusability, cleaned, and prepared for shipment back to the customer. Customers are only charged for containers that are repaired and returned in a condition suitable for continued use. Unusable plastic containers are ground down and unrepairable metal containers are properly disposed of by the company.

ARO Pro Series of diaphragm pumps
The 2- and 3-in. ported metallic models in the ARO Pro Series of diaphragm pumps are now available in additional materials of construction. Previously offered only in aluminum, the Pro Series now includes cast iron and stainless steel models. Like their aluminum counterparts, the new models feature patented air-valve technology that eliminates pump stalling by utilizing an unbalanced design — by creating an optimal pressure differential, air valves do not center, even under low air inlet pressures. Unbalanced valves reduce production loss and downtime by providing better shift signals and delivering faster trip-over with more flow (172 gal/min and 237 gal/min, for 2-in. and 3-in. models, respectively). With bolted construction and a variety of material options, these pumps feature leak-tight integrity and excellent chemical compatibility. O-rings and U-cups prevent air leakage by providing a positive seal as the air valve shifts. Air flow stops when the fluid flow stops.

Dirt and water contamination is responsible for 70–80% of lubricated-equipment wear and failures. This system reduces water concentration and improves particulate-filtration effectiveness to optimize oil condition and minimize equipment wear, reducing maintenance expenses and costly downtime. The Driflex technology relies on a fundamental principle of mass transfer to achieve oil dehydration: since moisture diffuses from regions of high concentration to low concentration, moisture-contaminated oil loses moisture to dry air. The system pumps oil from its reservoir through a high-efficiency particle filter, which cleans the oil and protects the dehydration contactor from damage. As the oil flows through the contactor, a sweep of extremely dry air creates a moisture differential, causing moisture to be transferred from the oil to the air. The moisturized air is then exhausted from the system. No wastewater or other disposables are created, and there are no moving parts or flow/level controls to adjust. The system can operate as a dedicated unit on a particular lubricant reservoir to provide continuous conditioning, optimizing the oil without the fluctuations that typically occur with periodic purification or replacement.

Resflex Series resin-bonded filter cartridges
Resflex Series resin-bonded filter cartridges use a two-stage design to provide reliable, effective filtration. Their outer spiral prefilter wrap efficiently removes large particles and agglomerates, provides increased surface area, and intensifies cartridge strength, while eliminating residual debris common with conventional, machined resin-bonded cartridges. The filters’ inner layers provide superior smaller-particle removal. Units handle flowrates of 10 gal/min for each 10 in. of cartridge length. Inner layers are available in sizes from 2 to 150 µm, and cartridges are available in sizes up to 40 in. They can withstand pressure surges of up to 150 psid, depending on fluid temperature, and can operate at temperatures up to 250°F. They can remove contaminants from even viscous fluids, such as adhesives, chemical coatings, petroleum products, and paint and printing ink.

“Big bubble” mixing technology
“Big bubble” mixing technology provides a cost-effective method of pH equalization using magnesium hydroxide rather than sodium hydroxide. Unlike NaOH, which is toxic, Mg(OH)2 is nontoxic, and it is four times more effective than NaOH at lowering the pH of water. Sodium hydroxide is typically used for neutralization because Mg(OH)2 tends to settle, making it difficult to mix using conventional equipment. This new technology effectively mixes Mg(OH)2 in tanks of almost any size, configuration or material of construction. To be used for Mg(OH)2, conventional mixers require additional structural supports, baffles, special openings, and new power sources. Big bubble technology can be installed in new and existing tanks without these costly enhancements; it requires only the installation of an accumulator plate (or multiple plates) that sweeps the tank floor. Compressed air injected under the plate forms a large bubble that pulls particles and heavy liquids behind it as it rises to the surface, creating vertical circulation and mixing. The mixer’s control system can be either electronic or pneumatic.
