These liquid/liquid coalescers can be used to capture valuable solvents, to accelerate separation processes and to assist in environmental cleanup applications. The separation media include monofilament knitted mesh in numerous metallic and plastic materials, as well as corrugated plate packs, for high-velocity flow regimes or for liquids with entrained solids.

AMISTCO Improved Pall Ring (AIPR)
The AMISTCO improved pall ring (AIPR) allows greater capacity, lower pressure drop, and even and thorough gas and liquid bed distribution. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including gas dehydration, demethanizing, tall oil fractionating, CO2/H2S removal, high-vacuum distillation and vacuum crude stills. Although similar in outward appearance to Pall rings, AIPR packing offers more interior surface due to more twists and bends in the internal geometry. The manufacturer claims this geometric configuration creates greater gas/liquid contacting and 25–30% more transfer points per cubic foot than standard Pall rings. The AIPR’s high-strength geometry makes it well-suited for deep beds. The packing is available in a wide range of metal and alloy materials.

Pilot Fluidized-Bed Reactor
Harper International has recently added a pilot fluidizedbed reactor to its Lancaster, NY, process-development technology center. The pilot reactor is capable of testing at temperatures up to 1,000°C. Materials that can be processed include inorganic powder/granules, refractory metal or metal compound powder, precious metal compounds, carbon/graphite powder and granules, ceramics, nanomaterials, and catalysts. The fluidized-bed process offers several advantages: uniform temperature throughout the material bed by enhanced heat transfer; improved gas/solid contact, which results in a faster rate of reaction; and uniform product quality from extensive bed mixing and controlled reaction conditions.

SR-800 valve
The design of the SR-800 valve eliminates the interior spaces where liquids and foreign matter can accumulate. The valve has a unique piston design using O-rings behind a Teflon wall to significantly improve sealing and self-cleaning. The piston completely fills the valve interior, making it impossible for matter to collect. It does this by closing flush to the valve end, eliminating any recesses or cavities. The fabricated SR-800 valve body is constructed of BPE and 3A-compliant, low-sulfur- content 316 stainless steel to eliminate rouging. The valve can be autoclaved for critical sanitation control, and it comes with sanitary/hygienic clamp connectors for easy disassembly. TFC SR2 Spiral-nanofiltration (NF) Element Fluid System
The Fluid Systems TFC SR2 spiral-nanofiltration (NF) element significantly lowers operating costs for a wide variety of selective rejection applications, including water softening, lactose reduction, protein recovery, and antibiotic and enzyme concentration and recovery. The SR2 membrane is highly energy efficient and capable of producing more water per square meter of membrane surface area than competitive products. Hardness rejection is typically 95% and organic rejection exceeds 90% for organics with molecular weights in the range of 400–600 daltons. The SR2 element softens incoming water and retains low-molecular-weight organics, while allowing monovalent salts to pass through the membrane. High-Viscosity Valves
These custom-designed rotary valves have helped a manufacturer of DNA analysis instruments solve a seemingly intractable problem. The instrument, which uses very high viscosity fluids, needed inert valves with sufficient shear force to cut through the fluid, acting as shut-off valves. The solution was a 1-mm-bore custom-designed rotary valve with a stainless steel rotor for torsion strength, a Tefzel liner for chemical inertness, and a PEEK body for rigidity. The shape of the rotor was carefully profiled to give a clean cut through the fluid, ensuring an instant start/stop of the flow. The valve can operate up to a pressure of 1,000 psi and is controlled by TTL or RS-232 protocols. Optical encoders are used to provide precise port positioning, enabling maximum flow of the fluid every time.

Compact Solenoid Valve
This compact gradient valve simulates a constant flow by utilizing rapid-cycling miniature solenoid valves to dispense gradients from multiple fluid streams in precise, repeatable proportions suitable for precision, high-purity diverting and mixing applications. An innovative armature drives the valve faster, with less energy, to assure controlled flow with repeatable opening and closing times. The gradient valves are designed for flexibility, with a rapid response time of only 2 ms to provide modulating flowrates at constant pressures to simulate a constant flow. Type 57 butterfly valve
New design features of the Type 57 butterfly valve include a flange stopper, which prevents overcompression in the valve liner, and a molded body absorption channel. These features work together to eliminate seat compression from effective stem torque, resulting in higher cycle life. A spherical disc provides increased flow characteristics and is less intrusive to piping systems. And, the valve is produced with the first all-plastic gear operator, Plasgear, which is standard on 8-in. through 14-in. models and an option on other sizes. Butterfly valve models 56D and 75D
Butterfly valve models 56D and 75D feature rugged, molded plastic non-wetted polydi-cyclopentadiene (PDCPD) bodies with durable polypropylene or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) discs. The discs have a spherical design that improves flow characteristics and lowers operating torque. Industry-standard ISO top-flange mounting patterns facilitate the mounting of gear operators or electric or pneumatic actuators. Wafer-style ANSI B16.5 bodies have been specially engineered to prevent over-tightening of the mating flanges during installation. Clean Valve
Designed for use on glass-lined reactors where batch-to-batch cleanability is important, the Clean Valve is a bottom-flush valve that is easy to operate and clean. The self-draining valve allows for a variety of functions (including sampling, gas dispersion, maintenance, etc.) without the need to interrupt the process and without dismantling the valve. The glass-linedsteel design ensures no metal contamination of the process fluid and enables use across a wide temperature and pressure range. The valve seat seals against the bottom outlet nozzle to prevent any collection or build-up of materials in the annular area between the valve seat and nozzle wall. An additional port with a 5-deg. downward sloping angle has been built into the valve to facilitate cleaning of the internal components and body. The Clean Valve features a UniTIP glass-lined steelhead and stem that is machined to provide a smooth-sealing surface for the valve-packing sealing rings. DYNAJETS High-Efficiency Water Jet Nozzles
The DYNAJETS high-efficiency water jet nozzles produce an extremely erosive environment, enabling significant increases in cleaning, cutting and drilling rates over conventional jet nozzles. They employ cavitation, acoustic excitation, and turbulent jet interruption and structuring through passive manipulation of the flow to create large high-frequency stresses on the target surface or in the liquid. This is accomplished completely by interaction of the liquid with the nozzle geometry and involves no moving parts or additional power source.

Specialized Materials Testing
This firm’s services include standard ASTM G-32, G-73, and G-134 testing, as well as customized testing for cavitation and liquid-impact erosion using ultrasonic, water jet and whirling disk devices. Cavitation erosion can be assessed at pressures from ambient to 2,800 psi. Evaluations can be made in different liquids and at different controlled temperatures. Using a split Hopkinson pressure bar, material properties at high rates of strain (~3,000/s) can be measured.

Relief Valve
This thermoplastic valve provides the rigidity and high purity required for lined pipe, eliminating the need for heavier and more costly linedmetal valves. Series TRVDT three-port, in-line relief valve
The Series TRVDT three-port, in-line relief valve is ideal for systems requiring minimal footprint or where the use of a piping tee is not practical. It has an economical, heavy-duty design that allows for easy replacement in existing systems. When closed, the valve has a straight-through flow pattern. The pressure setpoint is adjustable between 50 and 100 psi, and the maximum inlet pressure is 150 psi. Once the set pressure is reached, the diaphragm is lifted off the center port, and the excess liquid flows out through the third port at the bottom of the valve. The TRVDT model features a PTFE diaphragm seal with no wetted metals or elastomers. An additional non-wetted U-cup seal design includes the firm’s patented Fail-Dry vent, which provides visual warning of impending seal malfunction. Valve Spigot Ends
These factory-installed spigot connections minimize vertical areas within pipes that are without flow (deadleg). They are constructed of ultra-pure, corrosion-resistant polypropylene or polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and are designed for bead and crevice-free (BCF), infrared butt-fusion, and socket fusion piping. Engineered to meet the most severe industrial applications, the MX pumps are said to be the first injectionmolded resin magnetic-drive pumps that use a split-volute casing forming a vortex chamber. The 2 × 6 SuperPhobic radial-flow membrane contactor is an all-polyolefin degassing device that is resistant to many aggressive ink and coating solutions and various solvents. It is small and compact and provides inline degassing and debubbling of low-surface-tension solutions. The contactor uses a radial flow path through the contactor to maximize the surface area and optimize degassing efficiency. Hollow-fiber membrane is knit into a fabric array and wound around a central distribution tube. Liquid flows through the distribution tube, which is parallel to the hollow-fiber membrane. The liquid is forced radially over the membrane and exits the contactor through a side port in the housing. With 5.4 ft2 of membrane area, the contactor and one device can process up to 1 L/min of liquid. Larger contactors are also available for degassing higher volumes.

Valtek MaxFlo 3 valve
The upgraded Valtek MaxFlo 3 valve prevents the stem from being removed or ejected while under pressure. This robust shaft blow-out protection is fully compliant with ASME’s B16.34 Section 6.5.1 safety standard. Featuring low breakout torque and a tight bidirectional shut-off, the valve’s design increases the Cv (flow coefficient) and minimizes shaft damage from erosive process fluid. It comes in both a standard length (ISA-75.08.02) and globe valve length (ISA-75.08.01 or DIN 3202 F1), the latter of which eases transition from globe-style valves to eccentric rotary plug valves when conditions permit.

The Worcester CPT ball valves are engineered as control valves and provide reliable operation and precise valve positioning in critical throttling conditions. The valves can be used in systems that control steam pressure or pH levels, operate in low-temperature cryogenic conditions or up to 1,000°F, and meet EPA and OSHA specifications for containing toxic chemicals. CPT valves feature a patented seat technology, made from self-lubricated, full-contact sintered stainless steel, impregnated throughout with TFE (modified PTFE) or graphite. The Fisher Type SR5 sanitary pressure regulators and Type SR8 sanitary back-pressure regulators have expanded to include 2–in. and 3-in. models. In addition to the size expansion, a new PEEK soft seat material has been added. The new material provides ANSI Class VI shutoff in higher-temperature applications (up to 400ºF) and is FDA approved. USP Class VI grades are also available. Furthermore, a 75–125-psig spring size has been added to the SR8 line for 1/2-in. to 1-1/2-in. regulators, raising the maximum setpoint for these products from 100 to 125 psig. The Type SR5 and Type SR8 are designed for optimal performance in water-for-injection (WFI) and continuous clean-steam applications, which include clean-in-place (CIP) and sanitize-in-place (SIP) systems.

Because the wall thickness of typical Coriolis measuring tubes is significantly less than the process piping they connect to, the meter’s corrosion tolerance is significantly less than that of the associated piping. This tantalum flowmeter uses a single straight-tube design, which is less expensive to produce than earlier twin-bent-tube designs and contains the stress created in a straight tube due to thermal expansion. It is made of tantalum Ta10W, an alloy of 90% tantalum with 10% tungsten for additional tensile strength.

Technical Bulletin TL-173
A customized spent-chemical pH-neutralization system for handling corrosive waste streams at a petrochemical plant in China is described in Technical Bulletin TL-173. The brochure explains the reasons for specifying thermoplastics for the treatment tank (polypropylene), pumps (polypropylene), and pipes and fittings (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, CPVC) in this packaged system, rather than the stainless steels and exotic alloys originally considered. These reasons included initial and installation costs, product availability, and maintenance related to the pH variations involved with the highly acidic and alkaline waste streams, sudden temperature changes, and anticipated harsh outdoor conditions.

Thermoplastic Pumps - Case History
This case history spotlights an automated, zero-discharge water-reuse and chemical-recovery system at a metal-furniture manufacturing facility. It explains how the system recovers close to 100% of the plating and cleaning chemicals in the waste stream, enabling the plant to recover and reuse a major portion of the 150,000 gal/d of municipal water previously used. It also describes the system’s pumps — horizontal centrifugal pumps with all fluid-contact parts made of solid homogeneous Kynar polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF).

Two new sizes have been added to this firm’s line of ANSI B73.1 centerline discharge, rear-pullout horizontal process pumps, Model CGA-8×6×13 (ANSI-A-90) and Model CGA-8×5×15 (ANSI-A110). Flow capacities range to 3,100 gal/min and heads to 350 ft. Fluid contact is restricted to thermoplastics — polypropylene and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) — and other non-metallic materials. A sliding bar pedestal design simplifies mechanical seal inspection without disturbing the piping, minimizes shaft deflection, reduces maintenance, and allows for the use of any commercially available mechanical seal.

AZURE AWWA butterfly valves
Available in a size range from 3 in. to 30 in., and with high-flow capacities as a major priority, the AZURE AWWA butterfly valves are designed to the ANSI/AWWA C504 butterfly valve standard. Their concentric high-strength ductile-iron disc with stainless-steel edge seating provides minimal pressure drop with low turbulence. The 24-in. and smaller designs utilize a lens-shaped disc that provides the smallest protrusion possible in the flow stream. The valve seat is simultaneously bonded and vulcanized to the valve body. The entire interior waterway of the valve body is rubber-lined to prevent corrosion and extend service life. On 30-in. and larger valves, the seat is adjustable and replaceable in the field without the use of special tools.

The Roetelmann ball valve is actuated through a sealed canister by means of a magnetic coupling and utilizes a non-contact electromagnetic sensor to provide positive indication of the ball position. The valve’s design eliminates the potential of hazardous release by encapsulating the stem and seals in a welded canister — should the seals fail, the medium cannot escape to the atmosphere. The valves are offered in a variety of construction and seal materials to meet customer requirements. Welded- or flanged-end connections, locking devices to meet OSHA requirements, and actuators are available.

Originally developed to pump helium for a space-based cryo-cooler, this new semi-hermetic scroll features a patent-pending design that completely seals the pumping section of the unit, but allows cooling of both scrolls. Cool operation enables the unit to operate effectively at higher pressures and vacuums. As a compressor, the unit can develop up to 60 psig and has a displacement of 2 ft3/min. The vacuum model can develop up to 200 mtorr ultimate vacuum, with a displacement of 2 ft3/min. The unit runs at volumetric efficiencies greater than 80% and its wetted surfaces are constructed of stainless steel, nickel and hard anodized aluminum. Standard seals are PTFE composite, with other materials, such as polyimide, available to withstand specific gases.

Making their U.S. debut, AquaProbe 1 and 2 insertion electromagnetic flowmeters are debuting as a cost-effective alternative to full-bore meters as well as a convenient way to perform surveys on existing lines and meters. Intended for permanent installations where power is available, AquaProbe 1 connects with the company’s MagMaster transmitter. It offers 4–20-mA analog output and HART communication options. AquaProbe 2, powered by a battery pack, primarily serves temporary installations, such as checking, verifying and certifying meters. These flowmeters are available in lengths of 12, 20, 25 and 40 in., for pipe diameters ranging from 8 in. to 320 in. Accuracy is better than ±2% of flowrate, and battery life is up to five years.

Molded parts can be designed to handle a range of industry fluids, temperatures, surface speeds and pressures in standard, metric or custom sizes. Materials of construction include synthetic and natural rubber, fluorosilicon, silicon, polyurethane, nitrile and fluoropolymers such as Viton.

The Rotaflon rotary seal reduces shaft damage and power consumption, helping users to avoid downtime related to worn seal shafts. Its design accommodates surface speeds up to 5,900 ft/min and temperatures ranging from  –58°F to +500°F. Kwik-Klik plastic couplers feature a spring-loaded socket that clicks when secure and a thumb disconnect button that is easy to activate. Earlier versions of the Micro Motion ELITE flowmeter provide flow measurements with ±0.10% accuracy. In this latest rendition, accuracy is ±0.05% for mass and volumetric flow, and up to ±0.0002 g/cm3 for density — representing a two-fold improvement in density performance. The device is designed for chemical dosing, high-value custody transfer and other applications where precise measurement is critical. In addition, overall meter stability is boosted to a level that eliminates the need for field zeroing. Increased processing speeds and a new Coriolis sensor design combine to solve the problems associated with identifying and accurately measuring “two-phase flow” dilemmas, enabling precise measurement of streams  containing entrained gas, such as bubble flow, slug flow, and empty-full-empty batch applications.

In the event of a hose failure, this manufacturer’s Smart-Hose Safety System automatically shuts off flow in both directions, minimizing the potential for harmful spills and leaks. The system connects a coated cable within the hose bore to the valve plungers, wedges or flappers at hose end points. When conditions are normal, this cable acts as a compression spring to hold valves open. Instant thrust, due to coupling ejection, hose stretching or hose separation, is eliminated, allowing both valves to seat themselves.

Despite its small size and light weight (3 lb), the E8 3/8-in. Mini-Matic can pump up to 6.8 gal/min (26 L/min) at pressures up to 100 psi (6.8 bar). It can be mounted upright, sideways or inverted for use in a wide variety of applications. It features the Elima-Matic air valve system to eliminate leakage and deliver non-stalling, non-icing lube-free operation. The ST50 and ST75 flowmeters are now available with a wireless communication option. Featuring built-in infrared technology and a standard personal data assistant (PDA), field technicians can obtain measurements, make setting changes, and read troubleshooting codes without opening the instrument. The wireless capability makes the flowmeters ideal for hard-to-reach locations or where opening the instrument is inconvenient or labor intensive. FLT flow switch
The FLT (flow/level/temperature) flow switch reliably monitors the flow and temperature of liquids, gases, slurries, lubricants, and other fluids to provide wet/dry detection and pump protection from damage due to sudden, unexpected reductions in flowrates. The FLT flow switch has a dual-alarm capability. Alarm 1 provides a pre-warning signal with the detection of low-flow situations between 0.01 and 3 ft/s, allowing the control system or operator to determine whether to keep the pump running or shut it down. When the feed line to the pump begins to run dry, Alarm 2 activates as an emergency signal to shut down the pump immediately to avoid over-heating and subsequent damage. The flow switch can be specified in either insertion or in-line styles for pipe or tube installation.

V2 System flowmeter
When installed, the V2 System flowmeter requires less straight-run piping than conventional flowmeters. Suitable for a wide range of industrial process and wastewater applications, the system accommodates line sizes from 4 in. to 18 in., wherever irregular or crowded piping and equipment conditions make other flow technologies impractical or unworkable. The flowmeter measures over a wide flow range from 40 to 7,500 gal/min.

Wafer-Cone flowmeter
The Wafer-Cone flowmeter features a modular design that allows users to replace the flow element in order to adapt the device to changing flow conditions in dynamic processes. It uses differential pressure technology with built-in flow conditioning to achieve an accuracy of ±0.5% and a repeatability of ±0.1%. The pressure difference between the static line pressure and the low pressure downstream at the cone is measured via two pressure-sensing taps, and is then used with a derivation of the Bernoulli equation to calculate the fluid flowrate. The flowmeter is designed for liquid or gas service and is available in line sizes from 0.5 in. to 6.0 in., which makes it suitable for use in natural gas wells and in small process lines. Designed for industrial, potable and wastewater treatment systems, the Type 567/568 butterfly valve series features a double-eccentric-disk design typically found only in high-end metallic configurations. This double eccentricity reduces seal friction and wear, resulting in longer service life, minimal maintenance and better protection against pressure surges. Based on the concept of cell growth on a respiratory active membrane, OptiCell utilizes gas-permeable membranes that enable efficient exchange of O2 and CO2 for optimal cell growth. Less than 6-mm thick, the OptiCell system is comprised of two cell-culture-treated polystyrene film membranes sealed onto a microtiter plate-sized frame, forming a hermetically sealed, sterile growth chamber. Two self-sealing ports provide a sterile fluid path to the chamber interior for the transfer and exchange of cells and media. The system takes up a fraction of the space and half the media volume of 75-cm2 flasks. This Venturi scrubber efficiently removes submicron dust particles from gases with temperatures up to 230ºC (450ºF) at the inlet. A quencher added to the inlet accommodates higher-temperature gas streams. The scrubbing liquid is introduced through open pipes — not nozzles — into the Venturi throat. This route ensures uniform liquid distribution, eliminating wet-dry line buildup in the fully wetted section. Dust-laden gas and scrubbing liquid collide in the throat, dispersing the liquid into drops on which the particles impact and become trapped. Three models are available for flows of 0.002–20 mL/min, 0.003–40 mL, and 0.01–80 mL/min. The 4000 Series (150 or 300 ANSI) flanged ball valve is available in full-port or standard-port design. The body is available in carbon steel or stainless steel, and the trim (ball and stem) in Type 316 stainless steel. AT shut-off valves and valve assemblies
Approved to Factory Mutual (FM) Class 7400, 7420 and 7422, the AT shut-off valves and valve assemblies feature a spring-return automated ball valve, explosion-proof limit switch and solenoid pilot valve, advanced quarter-turn rack-and-pinion actuator design, superior valve seating, and a patented stem-seal system. The valves are available in three-piece models or flanged models, with Type 316 stainless steel or WCB carbon steel trim, in sizes from 1/4 in. to 6 in. The three-piece valves come with threaded, socket-weld or butt-weld end connections, while the flanged valves are available with 150# or 300# flange ratings. To perform reliably under extreme operating conditions, the Cardinal valves are rated for temperatures ranging from –40°C (–40°F) to 100°C (212°F). All parts are made from non-corrosive or a suitably protected material to withstand outdoor exposure on external surfaces and hot transformer oil on internal surfaces. Cardinal valves are robust in design, so that over-tightening or minor abuse encountered in handling or during factory/field installation will not result in valve malfunction. Cardinal transformer-oil pumps are rated for continuous-duty operation at temperatures from –40°F to 212°F. They allow thermo-siphon flow when the pump is not operating, which permits natural convection even when the pump is completely shut off. Along with a rugged split-casing design, the use of heavy-duty class 30 cast iron for the pump casing, motor enclosures, impellers and volutes extends the life of the pump. Large thrust-face sleeve bearings minimize wear and reduce maintenance. Three bearing types are available — a standard sleeve bearing, the manufacturer’s Harley sleeve bearing, and the Harley sleeve bearing with TecSonics bearing-wear monitoring. With two gasket seals on each pump, and no mechanical seals, repair and upkeep are reduced. This prevents seat damage so that the valve always seats and seals well. The valve has a class VI shut-off, independent of the pressure differential between upstream and downstream side. Heavy-duty, oversized inlet and hydraulic frames linked by side tension rods support the pressure piece and the entire plate pack. Two hydraulic cylinders on the sides of the filter press quickly and effectively open and space the plates. The PlusT Clean and Repair program allows companies to extend the life of broken reusable bulk containers that would otherwise be relegated to the scrap yard or stored on valuable floor space. By putting broken units back to work, customers save on the cost of purchasing new containers. The program is simple and cost-effective. Containers are inspected and sorted based on whether they can or cannot be repaired. Close attention is paid to structural integrity and other safety factors that may render a container unsafe or not repairable. Typical inspection points include broken doors, latches, holes and cracks. The IS-971 floor-model shaker series consists of three models, each of which can hold up to four 6-L flasks. An assortment of platforms and clamps allows the shakers to handle flasks, beakers, separatory funnels and micro-plates. The IS-971 has a temperature range of 5ºC above room temperature to 60ºC. The IS-971R and the IS-971RF have temperature ranges from 4ºC above room temperature to 60ºC, with a temperature uniformity of ±1.0ºC at 38ºC. Motion can be orbital or reciprocating, and the speed can range from 10 to 300 cycles per minute with a maximum orbit diameter of 70 mm. The ultra-quiet peristaltic pump gear motor (PPGM) series is designed for use with a wide range of peristaltic positive displacement pumps, including those that operate in liquid transportation, dosing and ultrafiltration applications. The Model 700-TH-5-SS inline rotary mixer gently blends batches as large as 5.0 ft3 (142 L) with complete uniformity down to the 1-ppm level in under 3 min, and it is efficient across its entire usable capacity range of 0.25–5.0 ft3 (7.1–142 L). (Its standard weight capacity is 500 lb (226 kg) per batch.) The mixer is capable of evacuating the batch and leaving no residuals, and it can be sanitized rapidly without tools. It features a stationary inlet and outlet for inline operation, and a rotating drum with proprietary mixing flights that tumble, turn and fold material gently. Self-Cleaning Rotary Drum Screen
This self-cleaning rotary drum screen separates solid debris from wastewater at high rates while using little energy. It contains a rotating cylinder constructed of wedge-wire screen with a stationary blade (called a doctor blade) on the outside of the cylinder and an internal spray line. Effluent from a head box overflows a dam and flows onto the outside of the rotating cylinder. This allows water to pass through the wedge wire into the cylinder, where the doctor blade scrapes sludge and debris collected on the outside of the cylinder and an internal spray line dislodges particles blinding the screen. The separator is suitable for use in sewage treatment, pulp-and-paper, pelletizing, and many other applications that require solids to be removed from high-volume slurries. Containing few moving parts and taking up little floor space, the separator also has low investment, operating and maintenance costs. Available models include 24-in.-dia. drums with lengths of 24, 36, 48, 50 and 72 in., and 36-in.-dia. drums with 96- and 120-in.-lengths. Capacities range from 200 to 1,000 gal/min.

The Driflex oil-conditioning system completely removes free, emulsified and dissolved water from a wide variety of industrial and mobile lubrication and hydraulic systems. Dirt and water contamination is responsible for 70–80% of lubricated-equipment wear and failures. This system reduces water concentration and improves particulate-filtration effectiveness to optimize oil condition and minimize equipment wear, reducing maintenance expenses and costly downtime. The Driflex technology relies on a fundamental principle of mass transfer to achieve oil dehydration: since moisture diffuses from regions of high concentration to low concentration, moisture-contaminated oil loses moisture to dry air. The system pumps oil from its reservoir through a high-efficiency particle filter, which cleans the oil and protects the dehydration contactor from damage. As the oil flows through the contactor, a sweep of extremely dry air creates a moisture differential, causing moisture to be transferred from the oil to the air. The moisturized air is then exhausted from the system. No wastewater or other disposables are created, and there are no moving parts or flow/level controls to adjust. The system can operate as a dedicated unit on a particular lubricant reservoir to provide continuous conditioning, optimizing the oil without the fluctuations that typically occur with periodic purification or replacement.

Resflex Series resin-bonded filter cartridges use a two-stage design to provide reliable, effective filtration. Their outer spiral prefilter wrap efficiently removes large particles and agglomerates, provides increased surface area, and intensifies cartridge strength, while eliminating residual debris common with conventional, machined resin-bonded cartridges. The filters’ inner layers provide superior smaller-particle removal. Units handle flowrates of 10 gal/min for each 10 in. of cartridge length. The 8-in. fittings include 1/4 bends, 1/8 bends, 1/16 bends, sanitary tees, wyes, combination wyes, reducing wyes, couplings, bushings and cleanout adapters. CPVC piping systems have a high temperature rating and are resistant to a wide range of chemicals, including acids, bases, caustics, salts, aliphatic solutions and other common agents used in chemical waste processes. The water-handling version is designed for large quantities of process water or carryover, making it useful for filtration, filling, extrusion, vacuum conveyance and soil remediation applications. The compressor variation offers a wider pressure range that may be needed for wastewater treatment, aeration, and gas boosting applications. Drive arrangements can have either a monoblock or pedestal design. Construction material options include cast iron with a precision cast Type 316 stainless steel impeller and a corrosion resistant pump body, or all stainless steel.

“Big bubble” mixing technology
“Big bubble” mixing technology provides a cost-effective method of pH equalization using magnesium hydroxide rather than sodium hydroxide. Unlike NaOH, which is toxic, Mg(OH)2 is nontoxic, and it is four times more effective than NaOH at lowering the pH of water. Sodium hydroxide is typically used for neutralization because Mg(OH)2 tends to settle, making it difficult to mix using conventional equipment. This new technology effectively mixes Mg(OH)2 in tanks of almost any size, configuration or material of construction. To be used for Mg(OH)2, conventional mixers require additional structural supports, baffles, special openings, and new power sources. Big bubble technology can be installed in new and existing tanks without these costly enhancements; it requires only the installation of an accumulator plate (or multiple plates) that sweeps the tank floor. Compressed air injected under the plate forms a large bubble that pulls particles and heavy liquids behind it as it rises to the surface, creating vertical circulation and mixing. The mixer’s control system can be either electronic or pneumatic.

Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems
These water and wastewater treatment systems contain a rugged, durable bin activator with a secondary baffle that vibrates at a different amplitude to guarantee continuous flow of product. They also feature a MetaTech feeder with only two or three moving parts, ensuring simple maintenance, and an agitator/conditioner screw that completely fills the product feed screw for accuracies to ±1%. The bin activators are available in sizes from 2 ft to 16 ft in diameter. MetaTech feeders are available in carbon or stainless (Type 304 or Type 316) steel, with 1-in. to 6-in. screws. Systems can be configured with all ancillary equipment and controls to meet virtually any water/wastewater treatment requirement.
