www.bematek.comHomogenization Test Laboratory
The Homogenization Test Laboratory evaluates shearing particle-size reduction and deagglomeration processes. It is suitable for assessing dispersions, emulsions, and slurries that require consistency and repeatability, and provides test results that are fully scalable to production volumes. It generates a comprehensive test report that includes application objectives, testing procedures, and processed sample results, which enables users to specify an in-line wet mixing system or colloid mill that is best suited to specific processing requirements up to 10,000 gal/h throughput. These systems comply with 3A, USDA, and FDA standards.
Inline Wet Mixer
This high-speed inline wet mixer processes material through a patented modular shear-action mixing head that forces all product through several stages of high-speed rotors and stators to achieve a consistent and repeatable finished product. It is easily configured to match precise viscosity requirements, and features a modular, all-stainless-steel construction that incorporates from 1 to 12 shear-action zones. It can handle viscosities above 100 cP at flowrates from 0.5 to 300 gal/min, as well as applications requiring dispersion down to 1 µm.
Wet-Mixing Mills
These wet-mixing mills employ new technology for precise particle size and biomass size reduction that can transform a pulpy slurry into a smooth liquid with a homogeneous viscosity. They are suitable for inline processing, and employ an abrasion-resistant milling head with a standard rotor and stator that can be customized to meet a user’s needs. The mills are capable of handling 10–10,000 gal/h throughput. They have a Type 316 stainless steel construction, and the rotors and stators are made from a proprietary hardened material that withstands abrasive slurries, and complies with 3A, USDA and FDA sanitary standards. Models are fully scalable and are offered for laboratories, pilot-plants and production facilities.
Colloid Mill Lab System
The wet-process, Colloid Mill Lab System allows full control of residence time in the mill to achieve the desired viscosity control and uniform size of both emulsions and dispersions. It features a positive-displacement feed pump to produce a pressure drop across the rotor-stator gap, which yields smaller particle sizes with higher throughputs and greater uniformity. This laboratory system can produce uniform particle size reduction down to 1 µm with throughputs up to 300 gal/min and can be scaled up to full inline production with accuracies to 95%. The flowrate and the shear rate (which is defined by the rotor-stator gap and speed of the mill) provide full control over the desired temperature and product characteristics. Two variable-frequency drive controllers are included.
Wet-Mix Process Systems
This firm’s Wet-Mix Process Systems provide users with a finished product that is homogeneous, has repeatable viscosity and dispersion down to one micron, and is consistent from batch-to-batch. Featuring a colloid mill and positive-displacement feed pump, systems can be designed for handling viscous materials from 1,000 cP and up, with flowrates from 0.5 to 300 gal/min, depending upon the application. Ideally suited for food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and chemical applications, the Wet-Mix Process Systems can be supplied for continuous- or batch-processing in laboratory, pilot-plant, and production environments. The colloid mills adjust easily while running, to allow product “fine-tuning,” and are FDA, USDA, and 3A compliant. The feed pumps permit flow control.
