FDA-compliant polyether polyols
Polyurethane offerings for the CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants and elastomers) market now include the following FDA-compliant polyether polyols: Pluracol P1010, Pluracol 1044, Pluracol 816, and Pluracol TPE 4542. These products comply with Title 21 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) for select indirect food-contact applications, as stated in sections 175105 Adhesives and 177.1680 Urethanes. The company’s FDA-compliant offerings also include diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) products, which can be used in adhesives “in reaction with one or more of the polyols or polyesters named in the paragraph.” The complete list of the company’s FDA-compliant polyurethane products for the CASE market can be downloaded from www.basf.com/pur, (in the Specialized Markets/Urethane Chemicals section).

Ecovio LBX 8145
Ecovio LBX 8145 is the first of a family of materials to be made with Ecoflex (a completely biodegradable plastic based on petrochemicals) and renewable raw materials. It contains 45% by weight polylactic acid (PLA), which is made from corn. Its first application will be flexible films that can be used to make plastic shopping bags.The Ecovio plastics will be usable directly without further modification to extrude biodegradable films. The basic component Ecovio L can be mixed with Ecoflex or PLA to obtain softer or harder formulations; the material can also be modified to injection molding or deep-drawing applications.
