Ariel WebInsight 6.0
Ariel WebInsight 6.0, the latest version of the web-based chemical regulatory compliance reference software, includes new tools based on the globally harmonized system (GHS) of chemical classification and labeling, as well as physical, chemical, toxicity, and eco-toxicological content (PCTEC) data. It extends the existing GHS reference and labeling functionality of the application by adding a GHS mixture-classification module that classifies substances based on their health and environmental hazards. Users can enter physical hazards of the mixture for reference on the final classification report and can generate GHS labels with all necessary pictograms, hazard information, and precautionary statements. A new PCTEC data module that is accessible from the home and database tabs provides summary data on toxicity end points from the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Hazardous Substance Databank (HSDB) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ACQUIRE database. The PCTEC data are automatically pulled in at a substance level to facilitate GHS classification of the mixture.
Ariel Multilingual Exposure Scenario (ES) Phrase Library
The Ariel Multilingual Exposure Scenario (ES) Phrase Library lets users create the exposure scenarios that are needed as part of the European Safety Data Sheets (ESDS). Available as either a standalone MS Access database or SAP EHS-formatted import files, the library contains the full set of phrases from the European Phrase Catalogue EuPhraC Version 1.1, which is a widely accepted industry standard. With more than 4,000 phrases available in 26 European languages, this tool supplements the company’s MSDS Multilingual Phrase Library, and can be used to create Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and ESDS, labels and other environmental, health and safety-related documents.
MSDgen Version 6.04
MSDgen Version 6.04, the latest release of this software for generating Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), simplifies the development of hazard communication documents for implementing the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The software allows distinct classifications to be maintained for each material. It takes into account variations in classification logic, as well as variations in generic thresholds and concentration limits. This release includes a complete set of complementary phrase-assignment rules that distribute the required statements to the appropriate sections of the MSDS and label documents.
Green Product Analyzer
The Green Product Analyzer provides data that are useful for assessing the sustainability footprint of chemical products, as well as for the selection of safer and more environmentally friendly products. The system has access to chemical profiles and substance data, which can be used to compare products by a variety of parameters, including toxicity, environmental impact, application, and cost. Users may set criteria to calculate ratings and to group products into categories, which can then be used to make direct and meaningful comparisons. It facilitates the tracking and managing of chemical inventories, helping to ensure that the materials being used conform to corporate initiatives related to the purchase, storage, transportation, handling, recycling and disposal of safer, greener products.
3E Online MSDS
3E Online MSDS now includes the Revision Alert module, which centralizes the detection and reporting of revisions to the Material Safety Data Sheet management system. It allows users to quickly view exact changes made to any MSDS in a company’s inventory. It provides notification via a weekly e-mail report of key data element revisions, including Chemical Abstract Service registry number (CAS RN) changes, National Fire Protection Association/Hazardous Materials Identification System (NFPA/HMIS) changes, and physical and health hazard modifications. It determines the impact of each modification on training programs and regulatory reporting requirements, such as those mandated by the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) in the U.S., National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) in Canada, and the European Community’s Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) legislation. It also notifies site personnel as needed to update secondary container labels or change how a product is stored onsite.
MSDgen 5.08
MSDgen 5.08, the latest release of the manufacturer’s Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) authoring system, assists customers in drafting hazard communication documents to comply with Europe’s Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) regulatory framework for chemical substances, as well as the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for classification and labeling of chemicals. These enhancements include support for an IUCLID5 export mechanism that allows the user to select any set of materials from within MSDgen and export the corresponding data into a IUCLID5-compatible file format to be used in REACH compliance. The GHS classification procedures have been updated to incorporate the complete set of GHS hazard determination logic and the addition of new country-specific GHS “building block” adaptations. The software seamlessly integrates with the manufacturer’s Ariel WebInsight regulatory data referencing tool, which enables customers to take any set of materials present in a product MSDS database and upload it into WebInsight so that more-detailed research can be conducted. The Rules Impact Analysis option displays changes that have taken place within a given set of materials when rules are updated. The Composition Component option displays component types in the ingredients section of the MSDS. Material Data Management allows formulations to be quickly and easily imported into any material record. The existing Disclosure Module has been enhanced to allow users to set default behavior for a substance at the material level, and carry forward these specifications for the material when it is used in other mixtures. The encryption and decryption methods in System Maintenance have been enhanced with new routines to further protect stored confidential information.
REACH module
Designed for use with the vendor’s online material safety data sheet (MSDS) management system, the online REACH module gives customers support in complying with Europe's Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (REACH) regulatory framework for chemical substances. It allows users to categorize products by REACH requirements, upload annual production-volume data, and calculate substance tonnage in order to determine a course of action for each requirement. After this information is compiled, the module helps users deformulate mixtures by volume and by REACH role, which helps in identifying products that require pre-registration. Customers can track inventories by downstream-user products and provide manufacturers with use information by substance. RegImpact, a companion module, facilitates REACH compliance by determining whether any products contain substances that are likely to appear on the candidate list or result in authorization requirements. It also provides access to the Ariel chemical regulatory database, and an expanded regulatory impact analysis feature that helps users to better understand the impact of regulatory changes on their raw materials, components and products.
Ariel Expert Rules
Working in conjunction with the substance database in the SAP EH&S application, Ariel Expert Rules streamlines the global chemical regulatory management process and reduces the amount of time spent researching, understanding and applying chemical and regulatory information. It can be run against both mixtures and components, and can make determinations using basic data, such as physical-chemical properties, toxicological test results and safety data, in the same way a material safety data sheet (MSDS) author would. The resulting information can automatically populate sections of various MSDSs and other critical documents to help eliminate variations in authoring and ensure that country-specific requirements are met consistently and efficiently. Ariel Expert Rules is based on Ariel Regulatory Content, which encompasses more than 700 searchable chemical lists and more than 60 countries.
Chemical Approval module
For use with the two latest versions of this company’s material safety data sheet (MSDS) management systems, the Chemical Approval module streamlines chemical requests and approvals for customers using and storing chemicals. Managers can perform a hazard assessment of their MSDSs and review main hazard information and fire code along with other environmental safety and health regulatory reports necessary to safely use and store hazardous materials onsite. The customer can also evaluate this data to determine if there is an opportunity to substitute a safer alternative or reduce the number of items in their chemical inventory. The module works with the company’s Online MSDS Standard Edition and Online-MSDS Expert Edition.
