Enterprise Resource Planning Goes Mobile

The DEACOM Integrated Accounting and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software System is now available as a mobile application. It allows users to manage sales orders, purchase orders, production jobs, and customer relationship management (CRM) data via any smartphone device in real time. Productivity and profitability can be maximized for such functions as inventory management, environmental reporting, labor tracking, purchasing, and more. The system is suitable for manufacturers of a wide range of products, from pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, cosmetics, paints, inks, coatings, adhesives and sealants, and food and beverages, to building components and modular buildings.

Numerical Functions Added for C and C++ Developers

The NAG C Library of numerical algorithms for C and C++ has been expanded with the addition of more than 150 new functions — it now contains over 1,300 user-callable functions that are widely used for chemical application development. The functions can be used in a wide range of operating systems, languages, environments and packages, such as Excel, Java, MATLAB, and .NET/C#. Enhancements have been made in the areas of statistics, optimization, linear algebra, ordinary differential equations, regression, random numbers, sorting, and special functions. The new release also includes two new chapters on wavelet transforms and global optimization.

Continuous Monitoring System Ensures Gap-Free Data Recording for Large Pharmaceutical Processing Plants

ViewLinc 3.5 is a continuous monitoring system that can be validated for use in FDA-regulated, GxP-compliant environments, as well as other applications where product quality or patient safety is a priority. The viewLinc system provides continuous records, advanced alarm scheduling, and automated reporting for monitoring temperature, relative humidity, CO2, differential pressure, level, door switches, and more. Each user can customize his or her interface to show specific zones and to eliminate unnecessary data. The system is deployed over existing Ethernet-wired, power-over-Ethernet, or WiFi networks, and runs on the plant’s own host server. Web-based access allows additional users at multiple facilities worldwide to be added.

Online Pump Selector Customizes and Shares Pump Curves

PUMP-FLO Premium is a new subscription-based web version of the PUMP-FLO software. More than 80 pump manufacturers’ catalogs and 135,000 digitized pump curves are available in electronic format, allowing users to search across multiple manufacturers’ product lines simultaneously. Real-time interactive controls adjust pump speed and impeller diameter and display results on the pump curve. Users can collaborate by adding data and project notes to their selection lists, sharing tools and saved searches from the list manager via email, and allowing others to view, modify, or share ownership. PUMP-FLO Premium is appropriate for pump users, specifying engineers, pump resellers, and manufacturers for sizing and selection, showing dynamic pump curves and aiding purchasers and suppliers in the quotation process. Non-subscribers can view the Selection List for free on the PUMP-FLO Premium collaboration website as “View Only.”

User-Friendly Tool Offers Design-for-Environment Guidelines

The DFE Advisor is a new online tool that provides guidance on developing environmentally responsible products and processes. It is based on the 2009 book Design for Environment: A Guide to Sustainable Product Development by Joseph Fiksel, which presents guidelines in four major categories: design for dematerialization, design for detoxification, design for revalorization, and design for capital protection and renewal. The tool asks a few simple questions about the product or process characteristics, lifecycle stages of interest, and environmental, health, or safety concerns. It offers relevant guidelines for the designer to consider, and provides examples of companies that have incorporated these guidelines into their design and engineering innovations. This is a non-commercial prototype developed by a team of Ohio State Univ. graduate students and is available free of charge online.
