this month's topic Piping, Tubing, Fittings and HosesLined PVC Tubing Combines the Properties of Two Materials
This tubing combines the flexibility and durability of its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exterior with the unique properties of its Hytrel thermoplastic polyester elastomer lining. A molecular bond between the two materials makes them inseparable. The tubing offers low permeability to refrigerant gases and hydrocarbons and resists ozone and moisture. The Hytrel liner resists chemical attack and particulate buildup. The black PVC jacket insulates the tubing from electronic interference, provides flexibility, and imparts shock, abrasion, and UV resistance. The tubing is useful in applications where different performance is needed for the inside and outside of the tube, such as Hytrel’s oil resistance in a harsh environment where the durability of PVC is required. It is manufactured from FDA-approved ingredients and is odorless, tasteless, and inert, making it appropriate for food-contact applications. Other uses include air sampling, propane gas delivery, and general fluid transfer, as well as in the manufacture of computer equipment, appliances, vending machines, and lawn and garden equipment. Standard stock sizes are 0.170 in., 1/4 in., and 3/8 in. I.D., and custom sizes and cut-to-length pieces are available. The company also stocks fittings and clamps that mate with Hytrel-lined PVC

Polyethylene Piping Offers Superior Performance at Very Low Temperatures
PE100 Industrial Polyethylene piping retains its mechanical strength and high impact resistance at temperatures as low as –58ºF, where other plastic materials typically degrade or suffer degradation of physical properties. Its performance characteristics include light weight, flexibility, compatibility with a broad range of chemicals, and abrasion resistance that allows it to be used with brine solutions, dissolved solids, and slurries. PE100 conforms to ASTM, NSF and FDA standards and is suitable for fluid transport in process cooling water, industrial water treatment, bulk water distribution, and chemical processing applications. Pipe sizes range from 2 in. to 36 in., with molded fittings of 2–12 in. and fabricated fittings of 14–36 in. Valves of compatible sizes, including compact tee, ball, diaphragm, butterfly and check styles, are available. Installation is performed using one of three fusion joining technologies, depending on pipe diameter: infrared butt fusion for sizes 2–8 in., contact butt fusion for sizes 2–36 in., and electrofusion for systems 2–26 in. All three technologies provide simple, safe and secure heat fusion joining and controlled butt fusion and weld traceability

Installation-Ready Couplings can be Installed Quickly
Designed for joining standard roll-grooved and cut-grooved steel pipe, the Style 177 QuickVic Flexible Coupling is the latest addition to a line of patented, installation-ready products that also includes the Style 107 QuickVic rigid coupling and the Style 177 QuickVic coupling for flexible piping systems. It is said to be ideal for utility service and industrial process piping in power generation and manufacturing facilities. With no loose parts and no need to be disassembled before installation, the coupling can be installed in one-tenth the time required by other pipe-joining methods, such as welding, brazing, soldering or flanging. The single-unit design is inserted onto the grooved end of a pipe, fitting, valve or any other accessory, and standard hand tools or an impact wrench are used to tighten the nuts. The coupling features a proprietary ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) or nitrile gasket material for performance from –30°F to 250°F (–34°C to 121°C). The gasket is geometrically optimized for performance under pressure, heat, assembly and stress relaxation. The Style 177 flexible coupling is rated to 1,000 psi (6,900 kPa), the Style 107 rigid coupling to 580 psi (4,000 kPa). The couplings are available in sizes of 2 in./50 mm, 2.5 in./65 mm, 3 in./80 mm, 4 in./100 mm, and 6 in./150 mm.
