LED Ring Light Replaces Fiber-Optic Halogen
The Micro-Lite LV2000 high-intensity dimmable LED ring light features a circular array of 12 surface-mount LEDs with optical lenses that produce bright, glare-free light. Its performance compares to that of a 150-W halogen light, but it costs much less to power and is Energy Star compliant. It is designed to fit all microscopes and is rated for up to 100,000-h service life. All LED controls are in its head, which has a 2.35-in. inner ring and an anti-glare white finish, and is attached with finger screws.

Scalable Controller Brings Big-Business Advantages to Small Manufacturers
The Experion LS control system is small and flexible, yet has the power and reliability of a distributed control system (DCS). It manages all continuous process control applications and optimizes batch and sequence-oriented applications, such as those typically found at specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, and consumer goods producers. It is scalable, and operates from a single PC or as a controller for multiple stations, which lowers lifecycle costs for smaller manufacturing sites. This flexibility allows the manufacturer to react to mar-ket changes without sacrificing robust process and batch control features

Standards Calibrate Trace Moisture in Reactive Gases
Span Pac H2O-R moisture-standard generators create known calibration standards for trace moisture in reactive gases, including chlorine and HCl. They employ the standard additions technique, in which a small flow of dry inert gas flows over a permeation tube to create a base moisture standard. Measured amounts of the base mixture are then added to a flow of the reactive gas to create the standard. Permeation tubes cover concentrations ranging from <10 ppb to >100 ppm. Multi-point calibrations over a 400:1 range are easily achieved at any concentration level. They can be used in moisture monitor calibration, moisture probe validation, filter capacity testing, and adsorption testing.

Technology Advance Increases Microfluidic Chip Functionality
The ability to integrate metal electrodes into glass and polymer microfluidic chips allows a wide variety of geometries to be created, such as interdigitated electrodes, heaters and temperature sensors. Applications include impedance detection and temperature control in microreactors and the generation of electrical fields for dielectrophoresis. Platinum is most frequently used as an electrode material because of its excellent chemical and heat resistance. A wide range of metals can be deposited onto the microfluidic glass or polymer chips, including gold, copper, titanium and chrome. The chip’s metal feature size can be as small as 2 μm. Metal layers can also be deposited on the inside surface of the micro-channels.
