Process Computer Enhancements Simplify Use
The full-function inRAx single-slot, in-chassis line of computers is now available with the version 2.05 upgrade. These integrated modules are less expensive than stand-alone options. They feature faster speed and improved capabilities because they are tied directly into the backplane of the controller. The modules serve as an add-on calculator to the processor without burdening the programmable logic controller with complicated flow algorithms. The upgrade’s features include a Modbus dictionary that acts as a data index, multi-meter runs, and data archival/event logging.

Portable FTIR Spectrometer Ensures Real-Time Results
The Exoscan is a portable, compact Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer that weighs less than 7 lb and is controlled by a PDA. It is powered by either an on-board rechargeable lithium-ion battery or an AC power adapter. The spectrometer is designed for nondestructive onsite surface and bulk analysis applications, including sampling solids, pastes, gels and liquids. In addition to its external reflectance-sampling interface, it features a sampling system that can handle the analysis of large surfaces. The spectrometer’s optical system is a rugged infrared modulator that operates in the 4,000 to 650 wavenumber mid-infrared region and is capable of a 4 cm–1 resolution. Its software architecture covers methods development, supervisory and operator functionality.

Tough Polymer will not Break during Molding
Zeonex cycloolefin polymers (COP) are used as lightweight, breakage-resistant packaging that can be designed to protect protein-based, peptide-based, floating-particle and high-viscosity drugs, as well as contrast media. The material’s high purity and wide-ranging compatibility make it a better choice than glass and other plastics (such as polypropylene or polyethylene terephthalate) for such applications. Zeonex’s mechanical properties insulate it from damage frequently inflicted onto other plastics from steam, ethylene oxide and gamma sterilization. It has a very high transparency, which facilitates a physician’s ability to see the drug relative to its contrast media when dispensing doses to patients.

Polymers Retain Properties at High Temperatures
AC-78 electrically conductive polymers are capable of operating continuously at 260°C without changing their high-bond-retention or conductive properties. Tests have shown reliable performance at 350°C for periods of 15 min. These polymers exhibit bond integrity on many substrates, including boron nitride, titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, polytetrafluorethylene, ceramics, high-temperature plastic, glass and rubber. They provide excellent corrosion resistance and shielding from radio frequency and electro-magnetic interference.

Compact Emergency Stop Guards Indoor Conveyors
Designed for use on indoor conveyor systems, the Model RSC line of safety-stop-controls can be purchased in four styles, including both single-ended (RSC-A and RSC-B) and double-ended units (RSC-C), as well as slack-wire and tight-wire versions. Tight-wire models RSC-B and RSC-C have an external tension spring to maintain constant tension on the pull cable. These units will activate an alarm if the cable is pulled or breaks. Once a problem has been corrected, the unit must be manually reset by physically moving the reset level. The Model RSC-D offers only a NEMA 4-enclosed palm-button stop.

Compact Flask Dancer is Ultra-Quiet
The Flask Dancer Orbital Shaker provides a smooth horizontal mixing motion with a smooth soft start. It can be programmed to operate unattended for periods up to 99 hr at speeds from 50 to 300 rpm. Portable Instrument Brings Safety to Corrosion Monitoring Systems
The Checkmate DL is a portable, handheld instrument that reads corrosion data from a data logger or remote data collector and then transfers the information to a computer for graphing and analysis. Compared to a portable PC, this instrument is claimed to be a better, safer option for use in hazardous areas classified as Class I, Zone 1 or Class I, Zone 2. Since the transmitter and data logger, which are both located at the data source, are already intrinsically safe and explosionproof, the entire corrosion monitoring system is safe for each step in the process. The Checkmate uses AA batteries, which provide for ten hours of continuous operation at temperatures ranging from –18°C to 50°C.

Downflow Workstations Provide Safety for Operators
Operating at low noise levels, these workstations recirculate air without releasing expensive conditioned and/or heated air into the atmosphere. They have been specifically designed as small bench-mounted units with unrestricted access for operations that are difficult to perform under a conventional fume hood. Switchover Valves Help Eliminate Process Shutdowns
Deltaflow switchover valves allow customers to use dual relief devices to eliminate process shutdowns. In this way, if a disk on one side of the valve breaks, a reserve disk can be placed into service immediately by actuating the valve. The ruptured disk can then be replaced without shutting down the system.

Solenoid Valves Come with an Integrated Coil
Series 204 and 304 solenoid valves are now available with a NEMA 4X integrated coil that has a rotating conduit hub to permit easy installation. The valves include interchangeable AC and DC coils and a tab coil that facilitates flexible production. Both series of valves are available as normally closed or normally open. Orifice sizes range from 1/32 in. to 5/32 in. and the valves have 1/8-in. NPT connections.
