Particle Analysis System Boasts High Accuracy

The automated FlowCAM particle analysis system provides high-resolution, full-color digital images of every individual particle analyzed. This enables plastic resin manufacturers, compounders, testing laboratories and processors to verify and document whether a batch of material meets quality specifications prior to shipment or upon arrival. Combining sophisticated digital imaging with traditional particle analysis tools, the FlowCAM accurately measures particle count, concentration, size, length, width and shape, as well as a series of proprietary, advanced parameters such as intensity, transparency, color, roughness, compactness and others. The FlowCAM detects and counts particles ranging in size from 1 µm to 5 mm, which are often overlooked in other systems, resulting in highly accurate data, precise particle-size-distribution measurements, and ultimately improved uniformity. With a simple mouse-click on a particle-size distribution, the FlowCAM permits in-depth, particle-by-particle review, visual analysis and cross-referencing. Within a data set, operators can qualify and quantify sub-populations, such as particles above a certain size, to determine not only how many oversized particles are in a batch of material, but also whether they are in fact oversized particles or merely agglomerations.

Automated Discharger Needs Little Human Input

This automated bulk-bag discharger can be programmed for batch or continuous operation directly from the bulk bag station. Providing safe and efficient operation, the system reduces human involvement to placing full bags into the discharge system and removing empty ones. The automated discharging technology provides a consistent and reliable supply of a wide range of materials, ranging from free-flowing to non-free-flowing. The agitator hopper design draws material away from the sides of the surge hopper and directs it through a center discharge, which eliminates material bridging or ratholing.

Static Grounding System Monitors and Protects Multiple Processing Sections

For plants that include several potentially isolated conductive parts, the Earth-Rite Multipoint monitoring system provides protection against dangerous static-electricity buildup in various components. Typical applications include powder handling equipment, filling/discharging devices, fluidized-bed dryers, pipelines, conveyors and ducting, especially where one or more parts of the assembly must be disconnected periodically. The ATEX-approved system can provide individual status indications, or it can be linked to a lock-out control system that prevents operation until proper grounding has been achieved. For applications with more than eight points, two or more systems may be combined, and a versatile range of connections and cables are available to provide the connection point onto the equipment to be monitored. The intrinsically safe system ensures that all elements are connected together and safely grounded, providing up to eight interconnected channels from a single intrinsically safe supply. An important design criterion is that the sum of all the circulating currents does not compromise the intrinsic safety of the monitoring system

Disc Pelletizer Can Adapt to Meet User Needs

The Disc Pelletizers convert powdered materials into spherical pellets 500 µm to 20 mm in diameter. They can agglomerate fine, dry feed materials, such as chemical powders, limestone, fertilizer, coal fines, cement/lime kiln dust and flyash, as well as wetter materials, such as filter/centrifuge cake, minerals, ores and pond tailings. These pelletizers are constructed of a heavy, welded, reinforced carbon steel plate, and the bottom internals of discs 6 ft and larger are lined with expanded metal to reduce abrasive wear. Using a handwheel-operated jacking screw, the disc angle is easily adjusted. The base and plow-support members provide maximum rigidity while simultaneously allowing rapid pan angle adjustment without the need for separate plow adjustment. Individually mounted vane-type plows easily control and maintain the product layer over the disc’s entire surface. Larger pelletizers feature ceramic facings. The pivoting base is mounted on heavy-duty anti-friction bearings.

Feeder Can Dispense As Few as Two Pellets per Second

The Micro Cone low-rate feeder features a screwless feeding mechanism that accurately doses free-flowing color, masterbatch or additives into a blending system or directly into the screw of an extruder. Utilizing a simple induced-flow rotating tube or cone, this can feed as little as a few granules at a time, with a feed rate range of 200 to 2,000 cm3/h (0.007 to 0.07 ft3/h); with the addition of an extension tip, it can feed as low as 100 cm3. The simple design has no pockets or screws, making it easy to use and minimizing maintenance. The feeder housing swings open for fast material changes, and with practically no areas for the product to get trapped, cleaning is easy. The inlet slide gate allows for material shut-off and removal of the feeder for cleaning and hopper emptying. A low-power stepper-motor drive and controller provide excellent turndown and flexibility, ensuring a wide operating range.
