this month's topic Environmental EquipmentDesalination Technology Treats Wastewater
Updated electrodialysis reversal (EDR) desalination technology removes salt, radium, arsenic, perchlorates and other potentially harmful contaminants from tough-to-treat well and surface waters. Using an electrochemical separation process that allows selective passage of ions in solutions, this EDR system produces high-quality water for a variety of industrial applications, such as cooling tower and boiler make-up water. Its rugged membranes and high chlorine tolerance make it suitable for a variety of wastewater reuse projects, including municipal drinking water, industrial process water, and wastewater reuse.

All-in-One Instrument Monitors Indoor Air Quality
The Multinorm is a universal all-in-one instrument for monitoring environmental and indoor air quality parameters. Available measurements include air temperature, air velocity, relative humidity, dew point, illuminance, luminance, CO, CO2 and sound analyses. The instrument can operate in two modes — in online mode, it displays current measurements, and in the logger mode, it automatically stores all measurement values for each logging interval. Software is included for data analysis, charting and reporting. Firmware is upgradeable to accommodate new probe additions in the future.

Makedown System Produces Dilute Solutions
This explosion-proof polymer makedown system is suitable for preparation, activation and injection of liquid polymers in water- and wastewater-treatment applications. It can produce dilute solutions (0.1%–2.0%) at capacities from 20 gal/h to 3,000 gal/h of total makedown solution. The system features all stainless-steel construction and uses the patented Gatlin mixer, which is a motorized mixing chamber that separates the polymer into an ultra-thin film for maximum activation. Booster pumps are not required, and materials are mixed and blended without blades that could damage fragile polymer chains. The system is unique in that it maintains maximum activation regardless of fluctuating flowrate or water pressure. An interlock prevents polymer feed if the water flow is insufficient. Standard systems include manual or automatic electronic metering pumps for polymer injection; larger models use motor-driven metering pumps or progressing cavity pumps. Available accessories include a desiccant breather, a calibration column kit, and a drum mixer.

High-Performance Vent Captures Explosive Dusts
Part of the Gold Series of dust collectors, the X-vent is a new explosion vent for applications involving the capture of explosive dusts. Manufactured in accordance with National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) standards, the X-vent carries CE and ATEX certifications. The multi-ribbed vent delivers a very high negative static operating pressure of –80-in. w.c., and is designed to open at +1 psi (30 in. w.c.). Rated for temperatures to 350ºF, the X-vent is standard on all new Gold Series dust collectors that require explosion protection, and is also suitable for retrofit use. Made of sanitary food-grade stainless steel, it has broad application in the food processing, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Features of the Gold Series dust collectors include rugged 10-gauge construction for durable performance, reversible easy-to-open access doors, and a patented cambar system that allows fast, trouble-free filter changeout without the need for tools.

Filtration Technology Design Lowers Costs
Advanced Nanofiber Filtration Technology for dust-collection cartridge filters helps reduce emissions by 50% or more over standard cellulose filters, providing a cleaner breathing zone for workers and reducing facility maintenance. It features advanced surface-loading capabilities that result from a mesh of 70–150-nm fibers that trap dust particles on the filter’s surface, where they are easily released during the cleaning cycle. Dust-collection systems equipped with these filters have lower pressure drops than standard cellulose filters, and they may use up to 60% less compressed air and require less energy to operate.
