Product Digest - Piping and Tubing

Plastic piping is big, long and tough — and available in a complete range of sizes

By expanding its Schedule 80 polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) piping systems to include molded caps in 10- and 12-in. sizes,  this company now offers a  comprehensive range of piping in sizes from 1/4 in. to 16 in.  The product line features molded Flush Style Reducer Bushings through 12 in., as well as fabricated fittings through 16-in. Corrosion resistant, lightweight, and able to withstand temperatures up to 140ºF  and 210ºF (PVC and CPVC, respectively), these molded products are more cost-effective than machined parts, thereby lowering overall installation costs.

A quick-connect system is quicker without O-rings

The Sentry QCIII quick-connect system uses Flaretek sealing technology on the chemical dispensing port, thereby eliminating the need for O-rings and associated maintenance. Liquid recirculation and dispensing is acheived through the same connection, significantly reducing cost of ownership. SentryQCIII is said to increase the flowrate by 150% compared to the maker’s existing quick connect systems.

Get a clear view of what’s inside this tubing

Clear-40 is the brandname of a rigid PVC pipe made to Schedule 40 dimensions that allows users to see the contents.  The pipe combines the corrosion and chemical resistance, and clarity of PVC with the advantage of a rigid tube that does not need ties or clamps to hold it upright or level. Clear-40 may be used interchangeably with Schedule 40 fittings of gray or white color. All ingredients are non-toxic and conform to FDA standards for use with food-contact surfaces. Stocked sizes range from 1/4 to 4 in. Custom options include bell-shaped ends and Schedule 80 dimensions.

When a longer pipe is better than two shorter pieces

Pipes in 40-ft sections are especially useful for transfer lines and other long, straight runs. They come in swaged polytetrafluoroethylene- (PTFE), polypropylene- (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride- (PVDF) lined pipe in 1.5- to 6-in. sizes, and in perfluoroalkoxy- (PFA)lined pipe in 1.5- to 2-in. sizes. Plastic-lined pipe that is loose-lined or reverse-swaged — where the liner is compressed then inserted into a steel shell, where it expands —has  been limited in length to 20 ft. Longer sections are fabricated by compressing the steel shell down on the liner during the picking and swaging process. This locks the liner in place to inhibit differential movement during temperature cycling.

Hose assemblies have the flexibility to bend and the strength to resist kinking

PAGE-flex SBF is an advanced design of Smoothbore PFA hose that utilizes a bonded, wire-braided, silicone-textile braided composite of Smoothbore polyfluoro alkyl (PFA) resin.  giving this product  superior flexibility (half the minimum  bed radius of other smoothbore products), as well as superior  kink and vacuum resistance.  Operating temperatures range from  –65°F to +325°F. The outer surface temperature of the tubes  is cooler than what is seen  competing systems offer, This   reduces the potential for operator burns and environmental heat in confined spaces.
