Agitators enhance flue-gas desulfurization
Top-entry and side-entry agitators, static mixers and other products designed to handle harsh flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) applications are available in stainless steel, high alloys or rubber-covered carbon steel. The corrosion- and erosion resistance found in these materials is an important benefit for abrasive FGD applications. This manufacturer also has the R&D capability to model any FGD mixing application.

Make smooth and creamy emulsions with this vacuum processor
Developed specifically for the demanding requirements of pharmaceutical skincare and cosmetics manufacturing, the RoTwin vacuum processor produces ultra-stable emulsions across a wide range of viscosities, with good absorption properties and a glossy, transparent appearance. It incorporates a homogenizer that can be set to operate in counter- or co-rotating mode, allowing accurate control of shear force and dwell time. This results in consistent, narrow particle-size distributions of roughly 0.1 µm. The peripheral speed of the homogenizer is about 83 m/s. An inducer is used to optimize product recirculation.

Heat exchangers achieve ARI 400 certification
The new A Series plate-and-frame heat exchangers (PFHEs) have been tested by an accepted American Refrigeration Institute (ARI) laboratory and have been registered as ARI 400-certified systems. The ARI 400 standard provides a uniform basis for comparison of liquid-to-liquid heat exchangers (see www.aridirectory.org/ ari/llhe.php). In compliance with this standard, the ARI 400 certified PFHEs cannot deviate from the published performance data by more than 5% with regards to heat capacity, and by no more than 10% with regards to pressure drop. This industry standard gives engineers, owners and contractors confidence in products from ARI 400 certified suppliers.

Use this pump system to transfer dewatered sludge
Designed to handle semi-dry, high-solids content material, the 2000 HS System is a cost-effective option for transferring dewatered sludge in wastewater treatment operations. The system is equipped with a twin-screw feeder that includes two self-cleaning, intermeshing feed screws that supply a constant, pressurized feed rate to the system’s G4 Progressing Cavity Pump. The resulting 100% pump cavity fill rate enhances overall system performance and cost efficiency. The twin-screw feeder can run at a separate RPM from the pump, allowing control over the amount of stuffing pressure.

Screen dry or wet bulk solids with quick access to screen inserts
The Type VRS circular vibratory screening machine is suitable for fractionating, protective and control screening, and de-dusting, as well as the wet screening and dewatering of a variety of bulk solids. Instead of conventional tensioning belts, the machine features a clamping screw design that offers quick access to the screen inserts, provides for a more stable machine behavior and facilitates assembly characteristics. Robust rubber elements on the mounting frame support the Type VRS and achieve a performance that is virtually vibration free. A flanged-type unbalanced motor located underneath the machine allows for adjustments to the vibration intensity. The VRS is available in 600-, 1,000-, 1,200- and 1,500-mm screen diameters, and in screening areas from 0.28 m2 to 1.59 m2, with 1 to 3 screen decks.

Blend, coat and agglomerate problematic solids more uniformly — and more quickly in this machine
The Cylindrical Plow Blender is a cylindrical vessel with a horizontally oriented mixing shaft that rotates about four-times faster than ttrough-style blenders. This design fills the entire mixing vessel with fluidized material, maximizing transfer rates while minimizing impact and degradation. The unit can achieve 100% uniform blends in ratios to one part per thousand, blend significantly faster than conventional trough-style horizontal mixers, and handle a greater variety of materials, except for pastes. It is available as a jacketed unit for heating and cooling applications, and with high-speed intensifiers to increase product dispersion and shear; automated controls, stainless steel construction finished to sanitary standards; and spray nozzles to coat or agglomerate particles, often with less liquid than would be required with trough-style horizontal blenders.

Think polyester for baghouse filtration media
Offering strength, efficiency, durability, and cost effectiveness, pleated spun-bond polyester filtration media are used in industrial baghouse filters for dust removal in air temperatures up to 275°F. They can be singed, glazed, or have polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane bonded to it. Thus, they do not attract oil-like polypropylene and nylon fibers, which can cause the media to deteriorate prematurely. Spun-bond polyester media cleans easily, allowing cartridges used in paint powder coating applications to work like new after a simple soap and water washing. Treatments can be added to dissipate static charges.

Optical remote control improves the efficiency of large-scale production operations
With an eye on the capital-intensive oil, natural gas, and petrochemical markets, this instrument maker has added optical remote control to its ProSafe-RS controllers. This new feature enables closer integration with the company’s Centum CS3000 R3 production control system. Typically, an instrument panel room and safety controller are installed in each process to monitor and operate safety field devices, such as emergency shutdown valves. ProSafe-RS’s optical remote-control function allows the instrument panel rooms and safety controller to be installed in a single location, for remote monitoring and operation. Safety field devices can be operated from the CS3000 R3 terminals. It is also possible to connect the ProSafe-RS system via HART communications with Yokogawa’s Plant Resource Manager software, an asset management system that integrates and manages maintenance information from field instruments.

Measure dissolved sulfides in water
The conventional method for measuring sulfide concentrations in water is to use analyzers that employ selective ion electrodes (SIE) for sensing. While providing adequate sensitivity, poor-quality samples make fouling of the analytical system a major concern. The A15/81 system overcomes this problem by employing a polagraphic H2S gas sensor that never comes into contact with the sample; only the gas stream containing the stripped H2S reaches the sensor. The device provides extremely high measurement sensitivity down to low parts-per-billion levels.
