Membranes Cater to Chipmakers’ Nanometer Requirements

As the semiconductor industry moves to narrower linewidths, the demand heightens for filtration products that capture smaller fluid contaminants in the nanometer range. Among the nine new products launched by this filter maker are two that target single-wafer and batch-mode wet-chemical processing. The UltiKleen Excellar ER Filter is a 20-nm-rated, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane that offers superior non-dewetting in aqueous and high-viscosity chemical applications. The Ultipleat SP DR Filter, a 30-nm-rated unit designed for wet-chemical surface preparation, features an asymmetric design that allows for dual retention, and its polymer material enables the filter to operate at higher temperatures than other polymers. The filter also boasts improved chemical resistance, a hydrophilic surface, and high flowrates.

Ion Exchange Improves the Purity and Yield of Plant Extracts

The recovery of polyphenols and other extracts from green tea, fruits and various plants is difficult, due to the low concentration and complicated mixture of such materials. With Amberlite FPX ion exchange resin, these compounds can be selectively adsorbed and recovered with higher purity and increased yield. In one application with pomegranate feed, Amberlite FPX increased the polyphenol purity from 3% to 52%. The resin is FDA-compliant for use with food, and food-grade solvents are used to recover the purified extracts.

Remove Alkaline Phosphatase from Clinical Feedwater

Made for the laboratory, this water-purification system combines the vendor’s Elix Clinical system with a BioPak final filter to remove alkaline phosphatase (ALP), while providing prefiltration, softening, reverse osmosis (RO), electrodeionization (EDI), polishing and microfiltration in a single package. Elix facilitates water flowrates of 35 and 70 L/h, while the BioPak disposable ultrafiltration cartridge dispenses ultrapure water for up to three months without experiencing a loss of capacity.

These Water Purifiers are Designed to Feed Clinical Analyzers

Medica Pro systems can deliver up to 4 L/min of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Type 1 water to single or multiple analyzers. Each compact system has an integral reservoir that eliminates the need for a separate tank, pump and pre-treatment filter. In addition, the reservoir and reduced rinse-up time allow for simpler and easier installation. The combination of ion-exchange resins in the deionization cartridge deliver long life and lower operating costs. Users have the option of adding a second cartridge to further reduce the exchange frequency. Where feedwater contains high levels of dissolved CO2 , a degassing cartridge can also be installed.

Fill Your Baghouse to the Limit with PTFE Filtration Media

Offered as a cost-effective alternative to membranes on all-PTFE needlefelts, Tetratex membrane is an all-PTFE woven filtration medium available in roll format for bag manufacturers. Available in two configurations, the membrane accommodates the most demanding baghouse applications, such as air-pollution control and product recovery. Tetratex 7008 is tailored for applications where contamination of the product in contact with the medium may occur, while Tetratex 7012 is designed for hot-gas filtration applications where extreme chemical conditions are present.

Nanofiltration Membranes Desalt Dairy Products

Fluid Systems TFC-SR spiral-wound elements are a cost-effective solution for dairy and other food processing applications where the feedstream is of low solids density and minimal floor space is available. Designed to USDA 3-A standards and FDA regulations, these elements handle a variety of selective rejection applications, including deashing and separation of carbohydrates and proteins. They can also be used for whey preconcentration, salt whey diafiltration and lactose demineralization. For cleaning-in-place, the allowable pH range is 2.5 -9.0 for SR2 elements and 1.0–11.0 for the SR3 and SR4 elements. The membranes are available in 40-inch long elements, 4 in. or 8-in. in diameter.
