I/O System Offers Increased Flexibility

The WAGO I/O system 753 series allows customers to not only harness the flexibility of the 750 Series I/O system, but, also the capability of using pluggable connectors for I/O module wiring. Customers can pre-manufacture wiring harnesses using the 753 series connectors and simply plug them into the 753 series I/O modules (a variety of both analog, digital and special function modules are available). This serves to simplify installation and reduce wiring errors in the field. The 753 Series pluggable I/O modules are fully compatible with the original 750 Series I/O modules and bus-couplers. Customers can mix both 750 series and 753 series in the same I/O node. This allows the customers to choose whether or not to make all functions on the node pluggable or to use this feature to identify which modules are wired to devices internal (e.g., contactors or relays) vs. external (e.g., sensors or actuators) to the control cabinet.

Bluetooth HART Modem Is Ideal for Field Use

The HM-BT-BAT (HART Modem, Bluetooth, Battery Powered) is said to be the only Bluetooth HART modem available to the market. By reducing the wiring requirements, and by its small size, lightweight, and durability, the HM-BT-BAT is ideal for portable field use. Productivity and safety are increased when the PC is not tethered to the HART instrument. Access HART instruments while safely on the ground. Instead of balancing a laptop on arms and legs, it can be placed securely on a table or chair up to 100 ft away. The HM-BT-BAT meets industry standards for both Bluetooth and HART connectivity. The Bluetooth interface meets Bluetooth v1.2 standards and is registered with the FCC. The HART interface meets the HART physical layer specification HCF_SPEC- 54. After a onetime Bluetooth Discovery operation, the modem appears as a Serial Port, typically COM8, to the operating system. This allows any software package (that allows COM8) to interface with the modem.

Modular Platform Components Offer Solution in Process Analyzer Systems

For use in the construction of compact and modular process analyzer samplehandling systems, the Swagelok modular platform components (MPC) system consists of a layer of fluid control components mounted atop a substrate layer containing specialized channel and flow components. It meets all the requirements of the ANSI/ISA 76.00.02 specification for the 1.5 in. (38.2 mm) footprint. The reduced size, weight, and footprint of the MPC system make it easier to couple the sample system to dedicated field-mounted analyzers and place them at the sample point, thereby helping to reduce the costs and inaccuracies related to long, heated sample transport lines. Because the system has less internal surface area than a traditional system, it requires less analyzer gases and is easier to purge or flush. Utilizing 50% fewer O-rings than other modular systems, the MPC system is easy to assemble using the customized assembly diagram, written instructions, and a single tool-a hex-type screwdriver.

Low-Cost Gas Detector Uses Plug-In Sensors

This intrinsically safe gas detector uses plug-in modules to spot dangerous concentrations of over 50 toxic or explosive gases — from arsine to xylene. It is especially useful for areas where gases under pressure could pose flammability or poisoning problems. The plug-in modules simplify recalibration. Because each module is precision tuned to “see” a specific gas, recalibration is just a matter of pulling one module and replacing it with a new one, obviating the need for cumbersome calibration cylinders. Module changeover takes less than 10 sec, and does not require area evacuation or declassification even in hazardous locations, since the detector is inherently intrinsically safe. The stainless-steel housing prevents corrosion, and an optional internal heating element enables operation in subzero temperatures.

Flue Gas Analyzer Is Self Calibrating

OxyTrak, an in situ flue gas oxygen analyzer, is self calibrating and requires no reference air. It uses a unique, miniaturized zirconium-oxide sensor with a sealed internal reference to accurately determine flue gas oxygen content, even with rapidly changing process conditions. With the sensor acting in “pump” mode, the current needed to maintain partial pressure equilibrium is proportional to the oxygen content. In addition, the Nernst voltage present during transients is used to instantly indicate the magnitude of oxygen content changes. The small sensor size allows the measurement inputs to reach equilibrium quickly, providing superior speed of response. The unit is designed for in situ installations with variable probe lengths up to 60 in. (153 cm). The advanced microprocessor- based electronics package features: an infrared, through-the-glass keypad; a universal power supply (85–264 VAC); 0/4–20 mA or 0–2 VDC analog output; dual alarms; a fail-safe alarm; and an RS232 or RS485 serial output.
