Sanitary Valve Design Improves Sealing and Self Cleaning
The design of the SR-800 valve eliminates the interior spaces where liquids and foreign matter can accumulate. The valve has a unique piston design using O-rings behind a Teflon wall to significantly improve sealing and self-cleaning. The piston completely fills the valve interior, making it impossible for matter to collect. It does this by closing flush to the valve end, eliminating any recesses or cavities. The fabricated SR-800 valve body is constructed of BPE and 3A-compliant, low-sulfur- content 316 stainless steel to eliminate rouging. The valve can be autoclaved for critical sanitation control, and it comes with sanitary/hygienic clamp connectors for easy disassembly. Rated for 150 psig, the SR-800 operates in a temperature range from 32°F to 300°F. It comes standard with 1-in. sanitary clamp connections. Strahman Valves, Inc.

Improved Pall Ring Offers More Surface Area for Greater Gas/Liquid Contacting
The AMISTCO improved pall ring (AIPR) allows greater capacity, lower pressure drop, and even and thorough gas and liquid bed distribution. It is suitable for a wide range of applications, including gas dehydration, demethanizing, tall oil fractionating, CO2/H2S removal, high-vacuum distillation and vacuum crude stills. Although similar in outward appearance to Pall rings, AIPR packing offers more interior surface due to more twists and bends in the internal geometry. The manufacturer claims this geometric configuration creates greater gas/liquid contacting and 25–30% more transfer points per cubic foot than standard Pall rings. The AIPR’s high-strength geometry makes it well-suited for deep beds. The packing is available in a wide range of metal and alloy materials.

Technology Center Expands Testing Capability with
Harper International has recently added a pilot fluidizedbed reactor to its Lancaster, NY, process-development technology center. The pilot reactor is capable of testing at temperatures up to 1,000°C. Materials that can be processed include inorganic powder/granules, refractory metal or metal compound powder, precious metal compounds, carbon/graphite powder and granules, ceramics, nanomaterials, and catalysts. The fluidized-bed process offers several advantages: uniform temperature throughout the material bed by enhanced heat transfer; improved gas/solid contact, which results in a faster rate of reaction; and uniform product quality from extensive bed mixing and controlled reaction conditions.

Instrumentation and Control Highly Accurate Flowmeters are Designed to Replace Turbines and Positive Displacement Meters
The first three-beam, custody-transfer ultrasonic flowmeter, the ALTOSONIC III is intended to replace turbines and positivedisplacement (PD) flowmeters in the fiscal measurement of light liquid hydrocarbons. For custody transfer, the meter offers 0.2% accuracy and is compliant with OIML R-117. With no moving parts, the ALTOSONIC III eliminates problems with clogging, scaling or blockage. And with no pressure loss, the need to upsize pumps (with the corresponding costs for procurement and electricity) is avoided. The flowmeter is bidirectional, while the three beams offer built-in redundancy in the unlikely event of a sensor failure. The ALTOSONIC III slots directly into the position taken by a turbine with a simple flow straightener.

Coriolis Mass-Flowmeter Controller Achieves Class 1 Div. 2 Approval
The newly released second-generation QUANTIM Coriolis mass flowmeter/controller is now approved for use in Class 1 Div. 2 installations as a UL-recognized component. Flow ranges for this device have been extended to as low as 1 g/h and as high as 28,000 g/h. A modular hardware platform using improved sensing tube geometries and optical sensing techniques now enables QUANTIM to handle both liquids and gases. Users will also experience better overall accuracy at the low end of the flow range because of improved zero-stability. The mass-flow controller features a new valve that is more forgiving of variations in line pressures and reduces the chance of clogging due to the use of a larger orifice. The new valve also uses an all-metal valve seat, thus eliminating potential control issues associated with elastomer valve seat compatibility and swelling.

Accelerated Bioremediation Technology
ORC Advanced, an oxygen release compound technology, stimulates in situ aerobic bioremediation of groundwater contaminated with petroleum-based hydrocarbons (e.g., methyl tertiary butyl ether, diesel fuel, jet fuel, gas condensates, fuel oils, lubricants, vinyl chloride, etc.). It is supplied as a nontoxic, environmentally benign powder that is mixed with water to form an injectable slurry, which is then pumped into the subsurface contamination zone with readily available direct-injection equipment. Contact with groundwater causes the material, over a period of months, to gradually release molecular oxygen, which is then used by naturally occurring microbial populations to flourish and rapidly degrade or break down the contaminants into harmless endproducts. ORC Advanced offers maximal, sustained oxygen release for up to 12 months on a single injection.

Dust-Free Drum Containment System Safely Contains Hazardous Powders
The portable, self-contained drum containment system (DCS) keeps toxic, explosive, flammable powdered materials and powders with difficult flow characteristics totally contained to eliminate cross-contamination and personnel exposure during transfer operations. The DCS features multiple containment barriers, which enable powder to be transferred in any environment, directly into process equipment by a single operator. The DCS is designed to be used with the firm’s powder transfer system (PTS), which pneumatically conveys material, by dense phase, into a chamber and then releases it under slight nitrogen pressure directly into the vessel.
