AIChE: 100 years young.

From the moment AIChE was created in 1908, we helped establish the discipline of chemical engineering—and set the foundation for a constantly evolving and vital profession. At that time, chemical engineering was emerging from its roots in the chemistry industry. But there was little or no professional literature available. With the creation of AIChE, over 500 professionals across the country had a single place to share ideas, grow professionally and establish chemical engineering as a formal discipline.

More than 100 years and 43,000 members later our goals have evolved, but the vision of our 19 founders has remained steady. As we look beyond our centennial, we can all be proud of all our accomplishments—past, present and future. Over the years our members have worked on notable achievements, established accreditation standards for chemical engineering programs and continue setting guidelines for government agencies. We have made significant, lasting contributions to society and the world.
