Chemical Heritage Foundation Chemical Engineering History Website: "Innovation at Work: Chemical Engineers in Action"
The centennial is an opportunity to create materials and an online presence that build recognition of the achievements and contributions of the chemical engineering profession not just among chemical engineers and chemical engineering students, but also among high school science teachers and their students and interested members of the public. Website is now live- please visit here!
A Century of Triumphs: Ten Lasting Chemical Engineering Achievements
The hallmark of chemical engineers in AIChE’s century of existence has been their contributions to society’s well being and standard of living. To celebrate these accomplishments at its Centennial, AIChE is compiling a list of Ten Lasting Chemical Engineering Achievements and 100 markers of chemical engineers' progress toward them.

Historic & Modern Era Engineers
The Awards and Recognition Subcommittee of AIChE’s Centennial Celebration Committee is developing recognition lists of 100 engineers of the modern era and 50 heritage chemical engineers, as well as other individuals and groups who have made significant contributions to the profession, some of which include:Eight Chemical Engineers Plus One in Space, Twenty Five Industrial Executives, Thirty Authors of Groundbreaking Chemical Engineering Books, and much more!

Future Focus
In addition to a look back at past achievements, centennials are an important opportunity to communicate an organization’s growth and vision for the future. While AIChE will use this year to unveil a new strategic plan for the Institute, we also have the opportunity to engage the profession’s thought leaders on how they see the discipline of chemical engineering evolving and what they see as the major challenges of the next 25-50 years. Such predictions can generate energy and enthusiasm among young practitioners of the profession, and can be the basis for generating interest and excitement, through public relations efforts, in the media and among broader audiences. The AIChE Centennial Celebration Committee will survey honored individuals (Eminent Chemical Engineers) as well as student leaders about their visions of the future of chemical engineering. The results will be summarized in a press release and feature article, and possibly integrated into the Centennial assembly program. More information to come...

Mini Histories
The Centennial Celebration Committee is inviting all chemical engineering departments at universities to honor two outstanding chemical engineers of their choice by creating a mini-history of their lives and careers. The distinguished individuals can be related in any way to the university- faculty, alumna/us, or supporter. The mini-history will consist of a one-page summary, which will be posted on the AIChE web site, and a five page in-depth biography. We are happy to announce that 31 schools have already confirmed their participation in this exciting project--please click here to learn more and see how to get involved!

Centennial Convocation
Featuring video, live music and special entertainment, don’t miss out on this eclectic gathering of AIChE members and leadership; international dignitaries and invited guests, such as Mayor Nutter and Philadelphia’s own “Ben Franklin”. Bob Brown, a distinguished scholar of chemical engineering, innovative leader in higher education and current president of Boston University will deliver a special keynote address.
Centennial Black-Tie Gala
AIChE’s Centennial Celebration, by highlighting achievements of the past and outlining future opportunities, will energize and unify the organization and the profession. The Centennial Black-Tie Gala will serve as a fundraising vehicle for AIChE’s student programs. AIChE is in the initial stages of working with an experience fundraising event planner for this special event. More information available now at http://www.aiche.org/About/Centennial/gala.aspx
Centennial Student Gala
A recent survey of undergraduate students revealed that, in addition to talking about the future of chemical engineering, honoring its past achievements and the eminent engineers who made them, the other most important component of AIChE’s centennial celebration, for them, would be some sort of formal event, including food, entertainment and dancing. There has traditionally been a special social event for students in conjunction with AIChE’s Annual Meeting and it has traditionally been held on the Saturday night before the meeting, during the weekend student conference. However, based on the students’ own desires, the social event in the centennial year should be especially significant and memorable.
Centennial Outreach Materials
A major online presence, being created by the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) is at the heart of outreach efforts for AIChE’s centennial. To extend the reach of that material, this project envisions creating a DVD or CD-ROM based version of some of that material that AIChE volunteer leaders (in local sections, divisions, and student chapters), as well as individual AIChE members, can use in their own grassroots outreach and celebrations.
