I joined AIChE within the last few months. Why did I get a dues invoice?
Membership dues are pro-rated. If you joined in June 2009 and your dues were $199, $99.50 would go towards membership for the current year and $99.50 would go towards next year’s membership. If your dues were $199 for 2010 and $99.50 has already been put towards those dues, there would be a remaining balance of $99.50. This amount is appropriated dependent on the time of year membership is activated.
When Do I Qualify for AIChE’s RETIREE Rate?
The retirement rate is covered in Section V, Paragraph 3 of AIChE’s Bylaws which states:
“Dues will be reduced to 50% for members when they reach the earliest date of eligibility for full retirement as defined by the Social Security Administration.”
The social security chart is online. Full retirement age is defined in years and months. For example if you were born in 1941 you would be eligible for retirement at age 65 and 8 months. If you were born in 1940, the social security retirement age would be 65 and 6 months.
AIChE will only look at the “Age” of eligibility, not the months. Therefore, in the example above, if a member was born in 1940 or 1941, you will be eligible for AIChE Retirement rate the dues year you turn 65.
Here is a chart that may assist you.
Birth Year |
Retirement Age |
Before 1942 |
65 |
1943 to 1959 |
66 |
1960 or after |
67 |
