AIChE Centennial Celebration:
Mini-Histories Project - GUIDELINES
Scope of Project
The goal of this project is to capture (in writing) short, interview-based biographies of 300-350 living chemical engineers. These biographies will be posted on the AIChE Centennial Celebration website starting in mid-2007 with the release of 15-20 per month. The project will be publicized in AIChE print and electronic publications. The initial thrust will be centered on the 158 chemical engineering departments in the US and Puerto Rico. We may also decide to expand the effort to the top 50 employers of chemical engineers in the project.
Chemical Engineering Department Role
Each department is asked to provide interview-based biographies (MiniHistories) of two chemical engineers – one from academia and one from industry/government. The individuals should be selected by the faculty. The writer(s) can be of your choosing–faculty, journalism professor or grad students, local writer, etc.– representing the best talent you can get for the portraits of your selections.
Selection of Interviewees
They could be current, retired or Emeritus faculty members or graduates of your school that have distinguished records as an educator, researcher, or administrator in the academic world. The other selection should be from industry/government with a distinguished record as an inventor, leading a major corporation, a major donor to your school, or other qualifications. In order to avoid duplication, please advise your contact person on the Committee as soon as your selections are made.
Instructions for Submitting Information
The written portion of the document must be submitted as a Microsoft Word® document to minihistories@aiche.org. The summary should be one-page with around 500 words. A photo of the individual is suggested and should be a high resolution “gif” or “jpeg” file. The “Mini-History” should be a maximum of 5 pages. The summary page will provide a link to the five-page document, which can include photos. From the five-page document, a link can be provided to any additional material a department wants to post on its own website, including audio or video clips.
The documents should be in 10 point New Times Roman and must be limited to the one-page/five-page format. AIChE cannot edit to fit. AIChE will review documents and retains the right to decline to post them if the content is deemed inappropriate.
Cost of Participation
Each university is asked to pay $50 per interviewee to defray AIChE’s cost in reviewing and posting the information to our web site. Any expense incurred by your department in preparing these documents will be the university’s responsibility. The university must grant to AIChE the right to reproduce in whole or in part the material once it is submitted. Please make checks payable to AIChE and send to the following address:
